We mostly hunt for edibles (always keeping an eye out for them special ones though) in god forsaken places.

Closest thing to getting "caught" or "spotted" was once that we were picking agaricus in a prairie out in the middle of nowhere.

We had a "funny" cig with us and we were just chilling out and this small golf cart appeared out of nowhere and drove by our car (we were several yards away and hid behind a huge tree that was in the middle of the prairie).
The golf cart passed by a couple of times. I was a bit scared but we mostly just stood quiet and still.

once he was gone we went back to the car and drove around to find there was this rich peoples golf erm, place thing and we figured the person in the cart was just looking for stray balls or something.

I go the other way on that.  I'd warn about the dangers of poisonous mushrooms and explain I am doing a service so no one will eat the wrong kinds.

Because modern institutions depend on the transmission of a certain world view and then willing acquiescense in the truth of that world view by the populations into which it is being exported.
In other words a kind of cultural brainwashing is necessary for modern cultures to work at all.
The consequences of the acceptance of this situation of brainwashing is further acceleration toward catastrophe."

GA state mushroom picking update, horse's mouth:

Dear John,  Thank you for your question concerning collection of mushrooms in Georgia.

Collecting mushrooms in a Georgia State Park is prohibited, unless it is for scientific identification and then a permit is required from our department.

You may collect mushrooms on DNR Wildlife Management Areas once you obtain permission from the area manager.  No permit is required.  You may find a list of all WMA's on our website at
http://www.georgiawildlife.com/wildlifemanagementareas_hunting.aspx

If you are collecting on Federal land, such as the Chattahoochee National Forest, you would need to contact the USDA Forest Service for each area you wish to collect, for their current policy on the subject.  Their main number in Gainesville is 770-297-3010 or you may e-mail them at gbain@fs.fed.us

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Secretary
Nongame Conservation Section
Wildlife Resources Division

You guys sound really reckless picking in areas that you KNOW the police have their eye on...
But whatever, it is your call.

i got handcuffed yesterday after i left my field. The cop was waiting by my car. when i saw his car from far away, i ditched my blue meanies!!! :mad2: i rarely find those...
he found 2 pipes and a roach in my car. i told him it was just spice(which it was).. i had no weed or shrooms on me at all. i was freaking out tho and i was really nervous which made him nervous, so he pushed me on the hood of his car really hard a yelled, "get the FUCK down!" (this is when he handcuffs me) i stood behind my car while he searched it. when he was done, he told me that spice is supposed to be used for incense and not smoked... lol he asked me what i was doing there.. i told him i was a nature freak and that there was a baby eagle in there (crazy there actually IS!) and i had seen it like 5 minutes before.. haha he thought it was BULLSHIT... he asked me like 10 times i kept saying the same thing. He told me i was weird and let me go with a written warning. thats IT. i got my pipes AND my roach back =] The charge was 'suspicious activity". he never field tested my pipes or the roach... which i was dissappointed cuz it was just spice and i wanted to see that...
