By the way, I've tried gaming while folding, there is absolutely 0 performance loss, it seems the folding client manages it's use very well. The only problem with folding while gaming is that while uploading results/downloading new work units I'll get huge lag spikes which usually result in me getting kicked from servers.
However, I thought it was worth mentioning, as while I'm happy to close it before gaming now - previously it was worrying about that which led to me taking so long to finally start folding, I think if people realised it really doesn't interfere with other stuff on your computer then more people here would fold.

It's actually possible to partially fix this using cFosSpeed if you care to go to the trouble. cFosSpeed allows you to prioritize bandwidth by application, so you can set the Folding@home executables to the lowest priority and your games to the highest priority and they shouldn't interfere - at least in theory. You might still see a small increase in lag when Folding@home is transferring data, but probably nowhere near as bad as before.
Manually pausing the client is always 100% effective though.

I've been looking for a team besides default to join. Now I will find out if switching to the SMP client on my quad core will be an improvement to running 4 instances of the single processor client.

According to the folding forum, A good quad can get more than 7000 points a day. This is going by a 3.2 intel quad

this is kindof fun with a good cause, wish stanford would give you a certificate of how much wattage was used so we can do it as a writeoff for tax purposes.
I got 9 comps going now, but i think im going to mob the local walmarts and bestbuys and secretly get those running as services too.........shhhhhhhhhhhhh you didnt here that from me.
Go team 12679

I'm back from a long unfortunate hiatus and have got my computer back to folding. It's a good thing I shut off my FAH because when I got home I found out all of the fans in my computer had froze :/
EDIT: Oh, I've tried the new SMP client and it seemed to be a bit wonky. So, I switched back over to one client per logical core.

So basically if i want to get rich, everyone in shroomery is willing to help?(excluding the programming and propagation of charity).

hello i just joined the FAH shroomery team.i'm running FAH around the clock using 50% of my cpu thats if i'm not playing games or anything and i do have a duel core amd. i had 86 points yesterday now im at 175 give or take a few points XD..
ok so i have got a question its probably more work doing it then just saying "who cares" but this FAH program it does calculations and stuff with your computer and its basically making your energy consumption a charity to medical research.
well if i got a wall meter that calculates the amount of energy used by my computer then times that by whatever the price of electricity is for the month you think i could right it off on your taxes as charity?
like i said it seems more work and i just wanted to get on this discussion and maybe someone would have there 2cents to put in about it.

Welcome to the club!
Since you have a dual core processor are you running two copies of the client?
I have no clue about your power being tax deductible. I'd check the FAH forums at http://foldingforum.org/.
EDIT: And make sure you update your profile with your FAH username in the "Personal information, email, password, etc." section!

My XFX GTS250 512MB card folds when I'm not gaming. Gets about 5500-6500 PPD. Also running the ATI HD4650 1GB on the old PC for about 900-1200 PPD.
I'll be adding the SMP core to run on the AMD 9850BE (Quad 2.5ghz) once my third stick of RAM gets here next week.
