I went in thinking I wanted my major. I was wrong. They didn't let me switch. It dragged out for over two years. I got expelled.
Enjoy college!

completely different from high school.
Most people are there to learn(since college is not mandatory). Students aren't ridiculed for asking questions or raising their hands to answer questions. You only meet twice a week for about an hour at a time. Many classes don't give homework besides reading, and you'll meet a lot of cool people. Don't make the mistake of letting the "lax environment" make you think that you don't have to study for tests, you do. I recommend making and using flashcards. If you study every day for two hours, you can probably get straight As for four classes.
the first few years are the worst, in that it'll feel like it will take FOREVER to graduate. Don't let these thoughts discourage you. Just complete semester after semester(or quarter after quarter), and eventually you'll be a junior, and then a senior, and next thing you know you're seated at your own graduation ceremony.
Apply for financial aid: google "fafsa"

Yeah you have the freedom to fuck up your life now, so don't do it. Nobody's holding your hand now. It kinda blows when the shit really hits the fan.

It's called college...

I love it man, even if i get out and make the same as my friends who went straight to work after high school in my eyes it's been worth it.
All those days of staying up late with friends drinking, watching football, growing shrooms even, tripping, learning shit with top notch professors who actually contributed shit to science, club activities, the bonds with friends and etc.
In my senior year of high school I thought it was downhill for me socially when it came to making best friends, I believed the bullshit about "The friends you had since you were young will be your greatest friends forever"
then I got to college and met more people that I hit it off with than I thought possible.
My daily activites consist of 4 classes, lifting weights, running, attending club meeting, drinking beers, growing mushrooms, doing homework, and yea, I wish I could stay here forever. This semester though no doubt is my worst ever, 8 AM's every day but boo hoo,
O, and the girls here as apposed to my high school are intelligent, very sexy, and not cunts.. I'm not sexist but growing up, men were always smarter from where I'm from and our women were fucking bimbos.

going to college class is like working at a job, from the teachers point of veiw, older teachers with tenor generally dont act like dicks.
yo mihgt meet some cowardly cunts that think your deprived of patience or understanding, no one likes them, just keep telling them that they're just a noise and generally bully them the way people used to "bully" you in high school they'll either look away or get all red with a serial killer smile on their face.
A lot of your old friends will become elitist, fuck em'.

Do research on your professors. If you can, pick the popular ones, especially for the Gen. Ed. classes.
This site is pretty good:
http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/
Your college may have its own website for rating professors.

I'm not sure what you mean by elitist in terms of friendship, but I agree. My best friend ended up living with 3 other people that we were both friends with in high school. Somehow the 3 of them bonded and ended up making him into some sort of pariah. Oddly enough the worst one of them was also our best friend in high school. A lot of it had to do with drinking being accepted by society, but not weed. Oh well people are cunts.
Fortunately one of the great things about college is for that every friend that turns into an asshole or drops off the face of the earth you'll probably make 10 more in return. It sucks that you don't usually have the same connection of knowing them for 10+ years like you do your friends from high school, but when those start to disappear you realize how fragile friendships are anyways. Anyways I digress, this isn't really what college is about but it always upset me that people I thought I'd know forever turned out to be faggots.
Most of undergrad is easy so I guess my advice to the OP would be to soak it all in. Experience everything you can and make the most of the good times ahead of you. Just make sure to stay on top of your work. If things ever get overwhelming there's usually someone who can help whether it's academically or psychologically.

Now that you mention it, college is probably what led me to lose my best friend of 6+ years at the time(he was getting elitist), and just recently lost a friend of 6 years as well(he started feeling inferior because I was getting too smart, and he only liked friends that were dumber than him.)
