 Pressure cooker weight thing

Finally scored a pressure cooker, it's a presto 26 qt or something like that.
Got it at a fleamarket for 5 dollars, the guage works (or seems to when i blow in it), only it doesn't have the weight that goes on top.(it's a really old one).
Other than that it looks like it's in marvelous condition, seals fine etc.
So me and a buddy made a makeshift weight out of a glass round thing that's bigger than a shot glass but not as big as an ashtray. It sits flat on top of the steam release thing and is about 3oz in weight or so. I haven't tested it, and before i did i thought i'd ask shroomery.
Will that makeshift weight thing work? Is it possible to make one (have a smallish shop) and if so how.

No i don't, it's not at my house at the moment.
I just wanted to know if the weight i made will work as a temporary solution, but i might be better off just trying the thing.
I don't think the weight i made is heavy enough to make the whole thing explode so,.

Those things are specialized, on the inside, there is a conically shaped piece of metal that dips down a little into the hole so it provides a very specific resistance. Please don't try to hand craft your own.

Well it's not getto but my 23 Q and my new little guy have the same weight.
My little old one has a peg one, the black peg on it goes up to indicate pressure, has 2 lines.

don't fuck around with pressure cookers... I heard of someone having a bag get loose and clog the valves, blew the top off in a taco shape, smashed glass stovetop, and smashed the vent I think. luckily nobody was too close. it sounds like a bomb going off from what I was told.

There is no presto 26.
What you have is more than likely a Presto 23 (quart).
Buy a replacement pressure regulator.

It's an easy equation to figure
I've got an unmarked pressure cooker here and wasn't sure what pressure it was working at
So got the weight and put it onto some scales, came in at approx 64 grams
Next I measured the diameter of the vent hole, can't remember exactly what it was...
High school math here fellas, not unlike when Lisa showed Bart a use for trigonometry - whilst he was in the mini-golf play-off against Millhouse...
Area of circle = Pi x R X R
Mass of weight / Area of circle = pressure
The result I got was after converting from metric to imperial- the 64 grams of the weight was exerting approx 15 PSI

There's at least one thread on here about what happens when someone ran a dodgy pressure cooker. It's a fairly funny thread. He was injured but luckily not killed. I think he had to renovate (some of) the kitchen afterwards.
