Just how do you get up from an all time low ?
Work on something. Clean your house. Work harder at work. Go see how fast you can run. Give someone a back rub.
Just find stuff to do. And don't stop.
Start using the word Awesome!

It's not that I'm never wrong, it's just that I never open my mouth unless I'm right.

It is awesome! If it weren't for those kids, some people wouldn't have anything to bitch about.

When you fall apart, don't reconstruct yourself, completely fall apart, if you reconstruct yourself you'll only fall apart again anyway
So might aswell willingly fall apart, at least then you can finally rest, aaaahhhh
This is what a Buddha does, stops creating a false self image that will eventually fall apart, just remain empty What a wonderful state of Being

I think it can be healing to try to "hold on" to emptiness...but it's pretty futile. Also it doesn't really answer the OP.

Basically, if you are at an all-time low and you get sick of it, you will either find some way out or kill yourself. It's not too complicated. We do what we will, always.

I think it depends greatly on the person. I myself am a problem solver, in the purest sense. I think a more creative and subtle approach/solution is always better than the common extremes. It also depends on the reason/sequence of events for the low ebb.

What works for me when I have dark nights of the soul is building my solitude, mainly through reflecting on why am I feeling the way I am and how I can change that. Creating affirmations for myself also helps heaps. Create an affirmation then look for past evidence to support your affirmation, and it becomes stronger and stronger, basic NLP. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, lots of comedy movies.

I slaughtered the worst of my inner demons many years ago, and my life improved ten fold. The thing is external events can still floor you, and rather than being depressed because of something personal/emotional, you can be left feeling detached from life. You may be able to function, work, look after your home/children, socialize, but there would still be this detachment and emotional isolation.
Do I ever make sense ???

IMO this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've been feeling this way quite a lot. Some passions and personal anguish still come around during specific times of the day and as reactions to specific external events, but that doesn't bother me so much when most of my time is spent feeling detached and there are no great expectations or fears, just a kind of detached whateverness that is neither optimistic nor cynical. IMO the forces that are pulling you away from this natural detachment are your inner demons.
What to do about it... Practise detached creativity maybe? In Tibet, for example, they make mandalas out of colored sand, and when it's finished they wipe off the whole thing and start again. Or maybe there is still something that you would like to "accomplish" in life before you return to this natural passionless detachment. One possibility is to look for that isntead.

In my own experience it answers it perfectly, because theres your mind reaching a low, then seeking release from this low, but the very act of seeking release makes it 'low', and anywhere it climbs to again it will fall from again, eventually one sees this up/down motion of the mind and just rides the wave rather than fighting it, or remains as the ocean.
Seeking a way out (fear) is to prematurely admit your own defeat, if believe yourself a victim of life then you experience life as a victim & life treats you like a victim, if you see that ultimately the real 'you' can not be burnt by life then you willingly jump into life, with no fear of being burnt.

Well I agree. Riding the wave without fighting is key, however this still involves going up and down... and part of riding the wave is that you have to make some choices. You don't have to fight the cycle to do this, in fact it's easier if you realize what goes up comes down before you start.

fight implies fear and out of fear all the negative/undesireable states thrive
the way i see it is if you fight anything, universally speaking your ultimately fighting yourself, how embarassing!

Focus on what's good, even if it's waking up in the morning. Keep on going and sooner or later things will get better. Works for me, anyway.
