a review on amazon says that miracle grow perlite contains harsh chemicals and should not be be used next to edibles pets or humans.
is this true and will this effect my mushies in a shotgun chamber???

It's ok.
It costs more than the garden center stuff, and it's smaller.
But you don't have to do anything special to it, prep it just like the video.

Yep. It's just smaller and dustier and more expensive than what you would get from the local garden center. Comes in smaller bags too.

110L bag of perlite, 8.99$ at the local garden store. Had to ask them to order it for me, but they were happy to do that.
i'll never EVER pay 5$ again for a 10 L bag what a bloody ripoff.

I can usually find perlite (4 cubic feet bags) for about $15. More perlite than you will ever need.

the lid to that container is exactly the same opacity so what if i used plastic wrap to seal in the humidity?
would i need to use holes in the wrap?

i used miracle gro for my first few cultivars and it worked fine, but i must say it sucks and i hate it
particularly for the fact that the granules are mostly very small and tend to compact together to restrict airflow, and they make things messy as hell because theyre small enough to fall through holes in the fc

no my idea is to replace the translucent lid that goes with that tub with transparent plastic wrap in order to allow more light into my fruiting chamber.
first off im wondering if that is even necessary because idk how much light needs to get into the fuiting chamber.
and if it is necessary i would like to know if i should put shotgun holes in the plastic wrap

unless youre going to automate the process that plastic wrap will likely waste your time
youre going to have to remove it every time you want to mist and fan and either add a new sheet each time, or develop ocd trying to keep it from clinging together

Oh, yeah you could do that, though it would be a bitch to fan.
I simply took a lid and grabbed a knife and cut out most of the lid and replaced the open hole with plastic wrap - and of course yes you do need to poke some holes every 2 inches where they'd be on the lid.
So basically what I'm saying is if you're going to use plastic wrap you should at least leave the lid frame so you can snap it on and it will fit nice.
PS - I'd use zip lock baggies spread open instead of plastic wrap - it's thicker.
