Crock Pot Sterilization

Hey all,
Doing my first grow, was wondering if I could get some clarification on if there's a difference between a pressure cooker and a crock pot. If so can I still use the crock pot (it's all I have access to).
Also, I'm using prints not syringes. The rest of the PF tek will be normal as instructed. Any advice on how to provide a quick and easy way of inoculation with a print instead of syringe?
Thanks

a crock-pot is definately not a pressure cooker, but you can use it to sterilize pf cakes. Boil them for 90 minutes, I say. You will not get spores into the cakes without a syringe, you need one. I can't think of any way around it, while still using pf tek, sorry, get a syringe

Ah, I thought I read once how you can inoculate jars with just the prints, must have been for a different tek.

You need boiling water. The steam will sterilize them. I don't know that a crockpot can get water to boiling easily, but I could be wrong, I only ever use mine for weed butter so I've never needed it that hot.
Anyway, you'll need a syringe for your print. Basically you're going to have to make your own syringe. There are teks, the easiest way it to use Dasani water and a shot glass. ----- Rub down shot glass with alcohol, let sit in glove box or closed environment that has been properly sterilized. Spores + water, suck up with syringe. Everything has to be sterile and its probably easier if you just buy a syringe from a vendor the first time, but whatever floats your boat.
Another option is to inoculate directly with spores, but its a big risk for your first time. Since pf uses a layer of dry verm to protect against spores (mold spores, anyway) you'll need to open the jar in a glovebox (don't try to do it in open air, you'll fail). Then you can use a sterile scalpel or whatever and dig a small hole through the verm layer and deposit spores there.
You're way better off following teks exactly right now though. It'll help you better understand whats required to maintain sterile work environments.

Good, haha. I can't imagine doing that much work for some pf cakes. Try to discern if the syringes are sterile and if not, make sure to sterilize the inside before working with it.

the alcohol is fine but boil a small pot of water, for about 10 minutes, suck up the water and squirt it back in the pan, repeat it a few times, you can also sterilize them by setting them on top of your PF jars when you sterilize the jars, make sure to wrap the syringes in foil

Don't use a crock pot for sterilizing substrates. Save it for making chili. If you don't have a large pot with a tight fitting lid for boiling, get one. RR
