Just stopping by to say hey- since i'm still getting loads of info from here, and starting some new 'projects' i'm folding for the blue-bruised team again.

By the way, I hear there are two clients, one that runs via CLI and requires a window to remain open all the time - which allows the new work units, and one that runs in the System Tray but only allows old work units.
I want to run Folding@Home 24/7 on start-up - without it interfering with games and such, so the System Tray one would be better, but from what I've heard it's obsolete since it only completes old work jobs. Is that true?

Negative. They update the clients and the work fairly regularly- if you use the system tray client, and install as a service, it will continue to get work, and run in the background. Even the ancient clients still get work (albeit a little less)
The 'newest' units are test units, and can be specified with the big/advancedmethods options. with those off you still get regular, shiny and fresh units to work on, just not the really big ones.

Ah yeah, I'm using the Sys Tray client now. Is there a Sys Tray client for the GPU? As I have a GTX280 and I'm not gaming much lately so would like to put it to good use - but I don't want an open CLI window.
Also, should I enable the > 10mb work units? I'm guessing I should as my first work unit seems to be going really quick - already at 7% in like an hour or less - and my CPU isn't that good.

the gpu units do go by fast with a decent card. there is a console client for the gpu, which is one of the clients I am using. it should still be in the folder you installed to- if not, check HERE Just extract to a new folder, and uninstall the old one, if you feel like it. For the gpu client, the cpu doesnt have to be too powerful, as it mostly just feeds the gpu data. I currently complete 1 frame (%) in about 2 minutes.

Ah cheers. I'm running both the CPU and GPU client now. I can't guarantee I'll be running them too long each day as I do game randomly and do some CPU/GPU intensive stuff - but when I'm not I can have both running as they don't really get in the way.
I didn't realise that they scaled resources until now - if I'd known that I'd have been using them long ago, I always assumed it was for server machines that were doing nothing etc hah.
Are the numbers for the work unit the number of points it gives?
I've only just started up the GPU client and it's at 200/10000. The CPU client is at 15/100.

Yup. I've got the SMP client running on 3 cores, and gpu on the other. Folding has always been good about getting out of the way when you need to do stuff. I too game at night, and i just close out the client for a bit, then launch shortcuts after. The numbers on the work unit are typically the project number (i assume you mean 6050 or something similar) And those numbers have no -direct- impact on points, as some are worth more or less. As a for instance, i am running project P5736, (which is worth 511 points) and project p6050 (worth 481 points) .

I have a cpu and gpu going as well. I am hoping to set up another machine with some old parts and get it going as well, with it I can set it as a dedicated one

I used to have about 20 computers under my control, sadly just my home and work one now. such is life. Either way, Keep up the good work! And if you want, you can PM me about folding questions, I've been at it a while, and while no expert, i know a thing or two.

I meant the progress numbers when you mouse over the system tray icon, e.g. right now it says 5800/10000 - is there a way to check how many points that's worth?

OOOO my bad. No, that is just a progress meter. There's no specific point amount per pip of progress- you just get a predetermined amount of credit when you submit the results. You do get a percentage for broken/half complete units when they get submitted, but i don't believe it is proportionate to the exact progress made.
You can lookup the credit per individual unit on the stats>projects page, or FAHMON (which is what I use)

Ah cheers. Turns out it was 450 for that particular project. 1/4 of the way through my next WU now. Just waiting for it to update so I can add the Folding image to my profile.
