Button Mushrooms !!

I am not sure if this qualifies as a gourmet but anyways lol. I am about to buy some button mushroom culture from spore works. The wife really loves those and portabella's. I am a very experienced cultivator when it comes to actives, but not have tried my hand in edibles yet.
My question is can they be grown on a giant cake made of BRF/Rice Bran/WBS Flour/Verm. and or Straw Logs..
Thanks for all the help in advance, and info on how to grow buttons would be much appreciated.

Hey,
I have 4 portabello bags on supplemented coir (check my grow log) They are colonizing, but are slow as hell. I was told it was because coir is not a suitable substrate for agaricus, partially composted manure is the best substrate. It turns out they grow on coir - just not as fast. Also, I was told some of the fruiting sub should be added to the grain. This would make sense because even though my white millet grain grew very fast, the transition to supp. coir took about a week before the myc started to leap off. That's about all I can tell you about it IME thus far. Oh, and it does fine on regular MEA. Tao

Everyone knows Spore Works is a fantastic vendor. That being said, I think I should warn you against buying their a. bitorquis 'warm weather button' culture. I had no luck with it after 4 or 5 attempts at making spawn. Other users on this board had the same experience. Maybe they have restocked and it is better now, I don't know. I just felt like I should tell you because we all know how frustrating it is to waste your time and materials.
Edit: and I don't think it was my error, I tried incubating my jars and I tried keeping them at room temp. I also tried using WBS, BRF w/ vermiculite, and popcorn as spawn. Nothing seemed to work, I got very little growth if any at all.

Click the link below. Don't know if you've seen this one. It's about Portobellos. Portobellos and Button mushrooms are in the Agaricus family. Bisporus being Portobello and bitorquis being you button mushroom. Hope this helps. HL

A correction portobello is merely the more open and mature version of the button, either bisporus or bitorquis.
Damion the buttons are secondary decomposers and will do much better on a composted substrate rather than without compost.

I would but RR doesn't like me.

Ports grow in compost or composted manure. Grow them like cubensis, but you'll need a casing layer. Don't forget to compost the substrate first. They're not a primary decomposer like cubes or oysters, etc. RR
