yes check the graveyard, they are exellent places to find libs, lawns to as they are well mantained.
i often get just as mutch, somtimes more from private lawns and sutch than i do from the country.
the only reason animals help for libs is because they keep the grass short, well mantained land and even freshley grown turf can be exellent.
If thats the case how come i never find them in my garden!??

I've also found liberty caps in at least 3 different lawns/different locations, but only a few specimens. Inactives such as Marasmius oreades and Panaeolina foenisecii seem to be more popular on lawns, from my experience.
I find libs in much greater numbers in fields.

Yeah I came across maybe 20 or so on a local cricket field last year, never noticed any on peoples lawns (though I do look as I'm passing by I must admit).
As Ashton said, much greater numbers on fields and moorland obviously.
Planning a camping trip in North Wales at the end of the month, temps there seem to be between 10 - 15 at the moment and they're having quite a lot of rainfull so fingers crossed......

Thanks, that link isn't working but I've done a bit of research now anyway.

Asht0n said: From what I've read, fresh Psilocybe cyanescens has a greater proportion of psilocin which is unstable over time, so their potency diminishes faster than P. semilanceata which contains mostly psilocybin/no psilocin.
So cyans might be more potent when they are freshly picked but libs will store better. Not a definitive answer but it's my best guess. Both species are remarkably strong.
Right thanks, so it's probably best to eat these fresh, or as soon as posible.
I'll start a cyans thread if I have any more questions or ID requests. Don't want to go off topic as this is liberty caps thread.

I've had them from golf courses before. The reason many people might not find them is because the greenkeepers will most likely either destroy them or collect them for themselves as soon as they see them. And they're normally out on the courses for about 6am each morning.
Luckily for me, my friend is a greenkeeper at the local golf course, and he's not too interested in mushrooms so he gives them me
Bring on the rain!

I too heard of people finding them on lawns and golf courses etc. but havent had any luck myself. So far ive only ever found them in fields with either sheep or horses. I will definately keep an eye out this year though. Im sure everyone on here spends most of the Autunm looking at the ground be it woodchips or grass

Late last summer I dug up a very overgrown rockery & then leveled it all off & mixed about 4 large bags of manure into it, ready to plant vegetables this year, which I never really got around to apart from on a small part of the patch. Anyways the majority has been left fallow adjacent to our lawn, when I went out today to do some weeding in preparation to plant some more veg I noticed quite a lot of mushrooms - que excitement .
At first I thought it was way to early for Liberty caps & then I found this thread, here are some photos I just took. I'd really appreciate it if some of you experts could help ID them. If they aren't is there a chance that if I leave the land as it is I may get Liberty caps growing there in a few weeks/months time?
I have more photos if you need them, thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot for the quick concisive replies, oh well I'll maybe get productive & plant some veg there. I'll probably check out some fields close by for the other kind.

Id rather spend my time on cow and sheep fields rather than golf courses and such. Less risky and your guaranteed to find more

I started hunting 2 years ago my first finds were around a golf coarse.. never really enough for a decent trip though... once i started venturing out to grazed fields (horse sheep cows deer) I started finding them in far far greater numbers
In my opinion head straight for grazed fields...

Awesome finds everyone! I don't live in a place where I can find these so I will be this thread for the rest of the season.

Thanks wiscokid!
It's 11, I forgot I put the half-peeled one in with a load of Panaeolus.
There were lots of Hygrocybes and big coprinoids out for the most part.
