Epic finds vjp!
You had me worried too when you hadn't yet posted a single find from July. Now I have a good excuse to spend every free moment in the woods. I have a few habitat questions, I might just send you a pm.
+5 if I had enough posts to rate you! Guess I should stop lurking and start posting more.

Correct according to Noordeloos. Other literature and mycologists hold different opinions.

thanks herb, airdog, and burton.
I dont understand what the difference between a mycological "trend" is compared to mycology "truth". Meaning, what makes panaeolus subbalteatus's name change to panaeolus cinctulus accepted in the community? Is it just the simple fact that some people with phd's decided they wanted to write a paper and change it? This is probably above my head.

While I can see a logic and usefulness behind Deconica and even agree with it, I don't know of any reason why cinctulus should be preferred over subbalteatus.

Here's the dilly yo, P. cinctulus is the earliest published name. Here are the earliest published basionyms of the two names in question.
Agaricus cinctulus Bolton, Hist. fung. Halifax, App. (Huddersfield): 152 (1792) [1791]
Agaricus subbalteatus Berk. & Broome, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist., Ser. 3 7: 378 (1861)

thats so cool you hunt right in the forest. actives here on the westcoast are either in farmer fields or in the landscaping, so its alot of urban hunting.

Its amazing how Phyllogena can grows off one or two leaves.
