archive.org users; mp3 zip OR vbr zip?

hey, so ive been using archive.org for awhile now. sooooo much great music on there. If you use it you notice there is 2 options for downloading; one is a 64Kbps mp3 zip, and the other is a VBR zip. Ive always downloaded the VBR, just because in my head bigger file means better quality. But im not a technical guy at all, and really dont know the difference. So can anyone clear this up for me? because if i can be getting the same quality from the other that would be great, because there way smaller files.

oh and i have tried downloading a couple shows both ways to see if i could tell the difference. but something went wacko on my computer and i couldn't even tell which files were from which download.

variable bit rate(vbr) should have a lower file size at the same quality as a constant bit rate file, if the vbr mp3s are larger in size then the cbr mp3s they should be decently higher quality.

variable bit rate lowers the bit rate when less data is needed in the waveform and raises it for more complex parts of the song.

Dude 64kbps is GARBAGE. Like, absolute trash that you can probably hear on shitty laptop speakers. Keep going for the VBR.
