Hey Ham.  Nice LC to work with there...

I have an LC question.  I bought some Tetracycline to try
with LCs in an effort to help protect against contams.
Does anyone know that amount (per some volume) to use?

I recently started three LCs from a Ralphster KSSS syringe.

1. LDM+Dex
2. Turbinado sugar (SITR)
3. Honey

All were at 4% concentration.

One week later the honey is growing like crazy.

For the record, I have seen crazy LC growth from SITR,
but this time I added some tetracycline to this jar.
I think that I must have overdone it, as there is no
growth in that jar yet.

The mystery is the LDM/Dex jar which is also not showing
growth yet.  I did a terrible job of filtering it and
so must wonder if this affected the results.

So, how much tetracycline can be added to an LC and
does turbidity affect growth?

Take care all!

JD

No idea on the tetracycline lol.  But yes you need to filter the Dex/Lme it should help things out.  Where the F did you get antibiotics from ?  Also it may help and or damage the LC but I am not totally sure about it.  Like I said I have never used it.

I would save the antibiotics for your agar,  I have tried antibiotics(not tetracycline) in lc's and it doesn't make any difference in the quality or contamination rate.
The boiling and filtering is important or you will have brown chunks in your lc.

Feed stores have them,  some will want an rx from a Vet though.  Call around to local feed stores and ask my father in-law had cows so it wasn't hard for me to get.

Do you use this for all your plates or just one's that you suspect are going to come in contact with contams?

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time.

I got tetracycline capsules through amazon.  They are
intended for aquariums.

I will think on when to use it, and will definitely
filter my LDM/Dex in the future.

I am not sure why my LDM/Dex jar is not growing at all though...

Good luck!

OMG, like.
This thread is gonna', like, become the LC discussion thread.
Nice work Damion50/50.

:datass:

Also, we must have started our LC's at the same time.
Because that's how far off mine are.
From a shaking and aspiring.

That LME/DEX recipe.
Is quite a fast, dense colonizer, indeed.

Yeah well if this becomes the LC chat thread then it does if not whatever lol.  Yeah the LME/DEX is aweomse IMO.  I started mine on the 29th but I don't add air and or shake because I have a whatman filter so it gets GE good through it and I place them on the stir plate for 30 minutes a day, which breaks up the mycelium and helps get the new air into the LC.

Yeah well, whatever.

My prediction, LC discussion thread.

Whether you aim for it to be or not.

I place a chunk of broken glass in mine.

Use tyvek/micropre tape for gas exchange material.

With RTV silicone injection port installed for sterile inoculations.

I shake mine once.

Vigorously right before aspiring LC.

Those lids can be assembled by the cultivator.
Or purchased pre-assembled from one of our sponsors, the mad season.

The mad season provides;

Vacutainer, heavy duty injection ports.
Whatman syring filters, used for gas exchange.
And Plastic PP5 auto-claveable.
Wide mouth and small mouthed, jar lids.

All the supplies a growing boy needs.
To construct the proper professional lids.

Click the link.
Find the lids.
http://www.themadseason.com/

It doesn't hurt to find canning rings.
To place between your lids and jars.

Making for a tight, non drip seal.

I got those lids as a freebie from TMS which was nice of them.  I ordered a bunch of other stuff from them and they hooked me up with 2 free lids and I paid for the third.

Also you could easily make them yourself.

@HL My first LC jars were the same, Tyvek and RTV silicone.  Also I have used broken glass as well as marbles.  I liked the marbles better cause they seemed to get the liquid moving better.

@HL  about the canning rings, you could also use plumbers tape which is cheaper.

True that.
Plumbers tape can be used in the place of rubber canning jar rings.
For those of us on a tight budget.

However, plumbers tape also will need to be replaced every so often.
After numberous repeated uses through the pressure canner.

Rubber canning rings will last until you lose them.
Or they become claimed in a nuclear holocaust.

Plumbers tape, will do the hobbyist grower just fine.
For the high workload of professional cultivators.

Rubber canning rings are the way to go.

For all you hobbyist growers out there.
Here is a tek for the use of plumbers tape.

As a jar lid sealer.
Which Damion50/50 speaks of.

Yeah I just use plumbers tape and use fresh tape everytime I remake the jars.  works for me for now lol.  I wanted to get some plastic rings but always forget when I am at the store lol,  you think I would be smart and write it down but I don't lol.
