Dreaming of Non-Existence at 4:20 a.m.

Awoke last night from a dream where everything ceased to exist. There was fear that clung to existence and I'm pretty sure that's why I awoke. But as my eyes opened they went straight to the clock -- 4:20 in the morning.
Do you think the numbers represent anything of importance, or was it just a weird coincidence?

Most definitely. Icelanders birthday (along with Hilter) is 4/20.

It was time for a blunt? It was just a dream, and as far as the timing goes, if you gave them importance, then you are giving yourself sign.. you are on a good path, perhaps.

what I recall is slowly fading from existence. Everything I knew, everything I saw, everything I heard, thought, or dreamed... all of it just faded away into nothingness. As the last of it was fading out a fear of having nothing, of being nothing, emerged. Attaching to it, I awoke.

yup It's very early morning here. 4:28am You're still tucked in dreams and I'm about to stand Qi Gong for about twenty minutes and then head into the hills with the dog. By 6am I will have used my body physically more than most my age do in a week.

I don't think it's possible to be aware of something nonexistent.
I think awareness of it brings it INTO existence.

That's the thing, even awareness fades. Do we really know what happens when we sleep. Ever watch the process from start to finish without trying to control the process?

I've had dreams of "non-existence" before. Feels like a huge dark fractal with nothing in it. No point can be referenced in relation to anything and it's like falling upwards into a sea of oblivion. Very intense type of dream. Ego gets freaked out very quickly, therefore the abrupt awakening.

That's a good way to describe it. I wonder, how does the ego become tranquil enough to allow itself to dissolve? Seems like death might do it for us because the ego refuses to allow itself to become nothing.
Anyone find that it is possible through other means? I understand well the concept of allowing the ego to do its thing without feeding it any energy, but I've never seen the ego not rise to prevent its own annihilation. Even the book of the dead has rituals designed to deceive death as long as possible. and it only takes a tiny instant of fear to snap awake. Any insights?

study the prajnaparamita sutras until you no longer believe in any ego whatsoever - then nothing is lost
so long as you think the ego (you) has inherent existence it will seem like something can be lost or gained - realizing the emptiness of all phenomena through study and meditation is the only way to counter this imo - trying to just kill the ego seems to already be accepting defeat
also remember the ego is a limiting structure on the mind - the mind is like clear light, it has no form - so anything that appears to have structure within it is entirely an illusion and will suck mental awareness away from the vast empty peace of an egoless mind (gain is illusion, loss is enlightenment)

if one realizes that his 'I' is empty, then everything else will be seen to be empty, as it all is
i think the only trouble people have is this whole thing is so so subtle, even when its seen in meditation its so easy to forget that seeing because theres nothing/no form to hold on to, and the mind can only remember tangible forms & ideas that it can hold onto & store in memory, so its like its always ellusive, i feel like its training the mind to hold onto that subtleness until it dissolves into that, the more it can hold to awareness the more spacelike & light everything becomes, the more it goes outward & hold to forms the more formlike & heavy everything becomes, holding to awareness isn't an attachment like holding to form, as who is attaching to what? what attachment can be left if you hold onto space?
