Something exotic, jazzy or funky if you have them. I think this would be beneficial to everyone because your playing can always get stale or your creativity can run dry.
Sorry but I don't know the names.
e---------------2--------1--------------------- B-----2---------2--------3----------1---------- G-----1---------1--------2----------0---------- D-----2---------0-------------------0---------- A-----0------------------3----------1---------- E---------------0--------1---------------------
They are nice chillout kind of chords and sound good up the neck as well.

Ya,found it in a magazine a few years back. I could imagine playing it in real life situationS. Would be pretty cool to have chords that suit different situations.

The string that's skipped can most of the time be muted by another finger that's holding down a note.
Or else you'd be fingerpicking.
- 8 10 10 - 10
Here, you're middle finger is covering the A string so it's muted.

Great thread! it's nice to see people sharing knowledge with one another! Heres some guitarisms I've collected over the years, have fun with 'em!
Em
0E 0B 0G 9B 7E 0E
B Half Diminished
x 3D 2A 3F 2B x
Dm9 or Am11/D
5A 5E 5C 7A 5D x
Generally the chord above I use as a minor 9th (iv) chord, it's a lot spicier than the minor 7 and fits inside a pentatonic scale nicely.
A Add 9
7B 10A 9G# 8G 9E 7A 0A 0E x (omit if desired)
The above chord is a base form that I modify to provide Maj7 add 9 or Dominant 7 add 9 chords. I like the voicing though, and I like to use the movable form of it by muting the E and A strings.
F maj7
5A 5E 5C 3F x A x E
The above is a movable voicing, but whats great about it in the F position is the inversion you can get by simply playing the open E and A strings, it's a big fat chord that makes moving to either A minor or E minor VERY easy. The movable voicing is also really handy for jazz, especially if you are playing with another guitarist
C Aug 4
8C 8G# 9E 10C 8F 8C
I love that chord, it's in barre form here, and resolves nicely to the next chord.
B(Q)
7B 7F# 9E 7A 7E 7B
Quartal harmonies are something I started using to avoid tritone dissonance, this particular tone cluster is a movable shape. The F# is usually omitted so that the harmony remains diatonic, however this is not always necessary, since several compatible scales also contain the F#.
Well folks thats about what I time to post right now, I'l come back and post up some other unusual voicings and chords later.

That E7 chord is a nice one, try adding the 9 on to it sometime, it's nice and fat:
0 7 7 6 7 0
Or if you like some feel good fatness, make it a #9:
E7#9 0 (or x) 8 7 6 7 0
They are both movable chord forms, so you can use them all over the fret board. Here's the voicing formula: x octave, ninth, or sharp ninth minor seven third root x

I like this one, it works well in between changes from a A maj to F#m for example.. or
4 6 4 6 5 x
that one is just like a C#7, but with the low C# moved up to D. I think its D diminished something, but i cant remember if its diminished or augmented. this can be moved around the neck to accommodate the key you're using. its awesome in a progression like:
F#m C#7 (any position will do) 2 4 2 4 2 4 9 2 6 2 6 2 6 9 2 4 2 4 2 4 10 4 6 4 6 4 6 11 4 5 4 5 4 5 11 2 x 2 x 2 x 9

X--X--X 5--X--X 5--4--2 5--5--3 X--5--3 X--X--X
Bottom E string can be left open for first 2 cords for a nice ring but must be muted for third chord. Lots of variations get a different feel, jack and diane, red hot chili peppers, whatever.
Another variation on the same theme that sounds a lot more punk: X--X--X--X 5--X--X--X 5--6--2--4 5--7--3--5 X--7--3--5 X--X--X--X
Taking this down the neck can mean alternations between: X X 2 A X 2 N 1 2 D 2 X 2 X X
A very low down country blues when hammered on between each chord change and either chord slid up like so:
X X--X X X X 2--X X X 0/2--X 1//4 0/2--0/2//5 X X--0/2//5 X X--X X X
/ = slide
Apologies for the terrible "tablature".
A final favorite expressive chord change I noodle with is along these lines:
2--2 3--3 2--0 0--0 X--X X--X Allow that simple transition to change the chording of the following hammered on and pulled off finger notes on the E string (be quick with the open E string because it is dissonant with the steady drone of the fretted B string) 2-3-2-0-2 change chord by opening G string as shown above and repeat kind of a "petty's free falling" feel.
finally, in the same spirit of that chord comes the one I call the Jim Croce chord because it is finger picked at the end of "Time in a Bottle". anything you can do with the D and Dmin (IIRCI) chord above you can do with this chord (Fmin?): 1 3 2 0 X X Same trick of opening the G string sounds good and can push a repeating hammered on and pulled off sequence on the E string.

this is one of my favorites to use, takes some stretching exercises but you get used to it and the fingering for quick changes after a while. in progression
E||------------------| B||------------------| G||--6--6--6--3----------| D||--7--9--9--4----------| A||--7--7--7--4---------| E||--5--4--3--2---------|
first chord 7 downstokes, followed by two string muted swipes (xx), and same pattern for the other chords and you have part of my song

try this mellow funky chill out chords: use your own rhythm 1 2 3 4 3 5 --x-- --x-- ---x-- --x-- ---x-- --x-- -11-- --6-- --5/6- --x-- --5/6- --9-- -10-- --5-- --5/6- --5-- --5/6- --8-- -11-- --6-- --4/5- --6-- --4/5- --6-- --9-- --4-- --5/6- --6-- --5/6- --6-- --x-- --x-- ---x-- --4-- ---x-- --x--
they go together pretty nice
i reapeat first two twice then go on to third one and hold on to that for a while, sliding constantly, then fourth i do short, back to third and the last one is short. use a funky rhythm, i like to do this a lot:
--x--x-- --x--x-- --x--x-- --x--x-- --x--x-- --x--x--

Or playing them as Dm6add9/A: X07760
And Dsus2/A: X05450

I wrote a song, no lyrics yet but here's the chords.
Intro/Verse
Dm, C, F barred, B flat x3
Transition:
Dm, C, F Barred, B flat, A x1
Chorus
Gm, A, Dm, C Gm, C, Dm, A
then back to the intro/verse repeat as necessary for whatever I write. Thoughts? it's the nicest sounding thing I've "composed" and I am proud of it.

Can't really give any advice without hearing it, not me anyway. Maybe post a recording of it and people could tell you, where to put in fills etc.
A really nice E chord I only just discovered

2 0 0 2 x x On it's own doesn't sound like much. This is the bar with it in.
0-2-3 x-0-x x-0-x x-2-x x-x-x 0-x-x
Recognise that? Maybe these two bars
x-x-|x-x- x-2-|x-2- x-2-|x-1- x-4-|x-2- 5-x-|0-x- x-x-|x-x-
Just play those two bars over and over, and think how they'd sound on a piano.

These chords are from a Wes Montgomery song. Don't think you can find tastier chords than these.
e 9 12 14 14 12 9 7 B 7 13 12 7 10 9 7 2 G 7 13 13 7 6 6 5 5 5 3 3 4 D 7 12 12 7 6 9 7 6 4 7 6 5 7 3 5 2 A 7 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 E 0 0
Hope this comes out looking right. Played slowly, can be in your own time too, whichever notes you want to make stick out I guess. Amazing stuff.

i always liked this chord that if an Em looks like this
x-x-x x-x-x x-x-x x-0-x x-0-x x-x-x
then it would look like this:
x-x-0 x-x-x x-x-0 x-0-x x-0-x x-x-x
