Every single dubstep song I have ever heard has been trash IMO.  I gave a listen to a few posted in here, and my opinion hasn't changed.

Whats with it. Honestly I dont think its that great. It gets old really quick. But it seems like everywhere I go it's the hot thing. I would much rather some goa trance or hardstyle. Can anyone tell me what they find so great about it?

I like the diversity of it - if you listen to several different producers, you'll notice that they use different techniques and sounds.  Some are more melody-driven, using more synth lines and instrumental/vocal samples; others are more rhythmically driven, focusing on dark, cavernous bass and heavy beats.  I love the paradox between the sparseness of the instrumentation and the monstrosity of the sound.  Also, it's amazing to me how the beats work on different levels at the same time - they can become very complex, but still maintain a basic minimalist quality.

Also, the half-time tempo is great to fuck to.  :doggystyle:

Sigh, this is why I am already bored with dubstep... People suggesting the same old artists over and over, not that they aren't good but meh.

I'm really digging the dubstep that breakcore artists are making lately. Either hard or very abstract.

And Frost is totally right, dubstep isn't something you listen to, it's something you feel when you're in front of the box.

Only times I listen to it lately is when i'm on ketamine at home. Holy crap :datass:

I love dubstep. But before I go any further I'll be the first to agree that most of it sounds like shit. The thing about dubstep is that there's a butt load of it out there, and to me only a small percentage of it is good, quality music. Once you you find those gems it's a fucking beautiful thing.
I got into it a few years back before it became hip and popular. Now you see a dubstep post in the Pub almost everyday.

My thoughts exactly Frost......

Dubstep has indeed blown up these past few years and there is a whole lot of incredibly shitty songs and producers out there now. Unfortunately a lot of this shitty new dubstep is what most people hear when they first hear dubstep and that's where they get their impression of dubstep from...

Kinda like hearing rock, rap, or hip hop on the radio, everything on the radio these days is absolute shit, but there is most definitely good rock, rap, & hip hop out there....Don't judge a genre by it's mainstream sounds

And there is such a huge broad spectrum of sound and "sub-genres" when it comes to dubstep, from heavy absurd "Gorestep" to chill smooth "lovestep". Though i'm one of those people that hate labeling music as specific genres, just listin' to the tune.

Quote:

Also, one of the biggest things about dubstep that some people don't understand is you have to hear it in the right place at the right time. If you're listening to it on little computer speakers you're missing 50% of what dubstep is all about. You need giant speakers and sub woofers to feel the depth that is dubstep.

Exactly...The thing with dubstep, it's all about the sub-bass frequencies, frequencies so low that we can not hear them, but we can sure as hell feel them....You should be able to literally feel the music, having every part of your body vibrating and reverberating to the same frequency, being immersed in that warm fuzzy bass....There's a lot going on in those low frequencies that you will never notice unless you have a decent system with a subwoofer....

It's funny, when it comes to dubstep, people either love it or hate it  ....And I can definitely see how some people are instantly turned off by it, and just don't get it...

I feel like i'm just preaching to the choir here.....But here are some easy going (no filth or absurd wobbles), smooth flowing dubstep songs for those of you still not sure if ya can dig the doobstep...It's not all about heavy filth and wobbles eh

Pure talent right here :yesnod: :drooling:

DJG

Distance

Djunya

And some Dark dubstep just for shits and giggles, love this shit. Gettin' down to some dark Psystep in the middle of a forest is

But yeah, there is lots of shitty dub step out there. It takes lots of time and filtering through lots of utter crap to find the good dubstep, but once you do, it becomes an addiction.

I would suggest checking out the dubstep allstars albums. Those are a good starting point to branch out into the genre.

Frost & openmind get it. Phew atleast some do!

Touchin’ down for the first time with Bludclot Recordings on this release is Kaboomin, hailing from Minneapolis, MN. This is some freaked out drum’n'bass to play for those voices in your head. Strong and robotic and running for most the track, rolling out into some more stripped down melodic action for the breakdon, dropping hard and alienstep once more before playing out into something that borders on drumstep and dubstep. Big tune. unsoundbwoy flips the remix into some tirbalized and dubbed out IDM alien language freakery type shit.

+BLUDCLOTdigital008

Kaboomin / unsoundbwoy – “Bite” / “Remix”

Kaboomin – “Bite”
Kaboomin – “Bite (unsoundbwoy Remix)”

You Americans are damned lucky with your raggajungle artists producing dubstep like this! Fuckin' mentaalllllll!

Also one I like, just plain HARD:

Dubstep is definitely not anything new...

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12105720/fpart/1/vc/1

...it's just getting noticed more now because the genre is so flooded with artists.  Which is not always a good thing; it makes the gems harder to find amongst the stones.

It's hard to say what someone will like, as well.  There are many different sounds out there that can be categorized as dubstep.  I hate all the "subgenres" people are separating it into though.  It just seems unneccessary.

The styles not exactly new either.  Dubstep goes back to Grime  etc

I dont listen to Dubstep, but I have no prob with it.  What I dont get though is the connection with Jungle & DNB heads. Real opposite genres, but they were probably the first to adopt it. Musta been people from the DNB scene that were behind a lot of it ?

I happen to love DnB and Dubstep. I feel like for me it's the rhythm. I get bored with most other genres of EDM besides those.

It's rave music, I'm not gonna judge it's musicality. Needs to be heard in the place it''s meant to be played for that, a lot of tunes can set the crowd off if the time is right.
