We are in the process of creating a new forum for those folks that are just finding the shroomery and I was hoping that I could get a little help from the cultivation community here.
All you guys could post your favorite links that helped you the most when you were getting started.
Please only post if you have a link to a good tek or a great thread that helped you get things going.
Thanks a lot and may your shroom karma be increased tenfold for your help!

They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again. We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends. Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing. They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end. They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection. These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease. RR [/quote]

Spongiform's Plastic tek is sick. Fahk's How to post pictures in the shroomery is a helpful link also. Damion50/50's coir tek is great. Any post by myco.alchemist. Just click on this mysterious users name and then click on show all posts. Do I need to mention any post by RR?
This thread isn't as popular as the rest of the links posted previously or as the members who posted them. This thread gains about 40-50 views a week on average and is posted by yours truly. Somebody is out there looking at it. Preparing Rye Grains/Berries for Sterilization in Your Pressure Cooker!
Teks and threads that personally got me going are as follows. FastFred's Media cook book. http://www.shroomery.org/9393/FastFreds-Media-Cookbook What are Some Good Agar Media Recipes. http://www.shroomery.org/5243/What-are-some-good-agar-media-recipes High Quality Liquid Culture; Step by Step http://www.shroomery.org/9378/High-Quality-Liquid-Culture-Step-by-Step Doc's Wild Birdseeed Tek http://www.shroomery.org/9030/Docs-Wild-Bird-Seed-Tek
To break the monotony of this post. Here is a look at this mornings Orissa India pinset research project experiment. Which is relevant because these genetics are from a fellow shroomerite.
I am currently spawning Shiitakes to cherry wood chips for an outdoor Shiitake bed(s). The thread that inspired me to do outdoor beds is Deva1's Hot for Teacher thread featuring Golden Teacher spawned to an outdoor bed. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4563577/fpart/all/vc/1 The tek I am using is FAHK'S EASY WOOD LOVERS CULTIVATION TEK for Shiitakes. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11774724/page/1/fpart/all/vc/1 Instead of preparing pf jars I prepared quart sized rye grain jars instead.
This is quite the personal question, george castanza. No matter. It is what it is and I answered it, so.
Further more, since we are on the topic of constructive criticism, I would like to add that there are too many stickies at the top of the mushroom cultivation page. Please remove a sticky or two. The stickies take up half the front page in the mushroom cultivation forum. More than any other forum on the shroomery.

Great video to give the newbie an idea of what they are going to do, but some of the information is not right on point (iko).
I have taken the liberty of making these notes:
1. Shaking jars every few days is not recommended.
2. Incubation information is not quite accurate.
3. Drying information is not accurate.
4. Cubenis is mostly grown with rye berries NOT rye seed. Although it does appears that rye berries are used in the video, they are referred to as rye seed.

Great stuff. This thread is very informative and help me sort out things from scratch. As newbie in gardening, I am still adjusting and soliciting ideas from other experts on how to grow mushrooms in a perfect manner. Now little by little I internalized some of the advise.
Thanks guys. I will continue follow this thread for my learning.

I'm still just getting started, and really dig this guy's videos. He's big over at shroomtalk (dare I speak the name?) http://www.youtube.com/user/thehuntergt
Also came across this tempting tek last night - just when I thought I had a plan for my next batch! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12472757#12472757
And this one helped me regarding maintaining humidity and fresh air exchange in a martha. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13478600#13478600 That guy also has other good info.
-------------------- I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Doesn't matter the amount of spores (usually "less is more" with spores).
It has to do with genetics.

I really enjoyed reading through these raw notes compiled from Roger Rabbit's posts.

Lots of good info in there. Its good to read through once you have a basic to intermediate understanding of how mushroom cultivation works.
I also complied all my bookmarks into one post on my journal.

I've often referred to our very own Scotsman1's tips for beginners with BRF cakes... his cakes are so impressive and he has a small few extremely simple tips, mostly paying particular attention to a double end casing and not being shy with the water. In fact as well as mist, he turns the water bottle stream to a jet and really soaks the top and bottom vermiculite casing layers. We all know shrooms are 90% water, and the benefits speak for themselves with his pictures:

Cool.
You should feel free to start a new thread for that OI grow.
Not only is this the desired process, but you are more protected in your own thread from noob complaints.
Good luck to you,
JD

Noobie here that just finished harvesting my first batch. Wanted to share a link to the videos that helped me get a successful start. The only problem I had was not sterilizing two of my jars (my PC only holds 10 1/2 pints). The video mentions that using this method it does not require sterilization. That may be true but, I got the green stuff growing in those two jars. However, they colonized at twice the rate and had 100% coverage in five days (I used liquid culture (LC) to just start the colonization).

I considered putting a link to THIS post (there are so many good links in here) but then got worried about the possible paradox that may ensue.
Wicked post, thanks for everyones links.
Heres my absolute favorite though

Well I used a lot of links when I started up, but I'm sure most of them have been used already.
If I may, I would like to share my thread. I try to update regularly with information and pictures. I'm usually available all the time for questions and help via computer/phone.
Only been very active on the site as of recently. Taking my time more seriously and doing my best to spread knowledge.

This site has quite a bit of info compiled about growing techniques and various species and strains of medicinal and gourmet mushrooms. Im a bit biased because I work there but I think it could still be very useful.

I see a lot of threads asking about how to calculate lighting. This link has a handy calculator to convert lumens to lux that may be helpful. The answer is expressed in lux per cubic foot, or one foot from a one square foot area.
http://www.unitconversion.org/illumination/lux-to-lumens-per-square-foot-conversion.html
My present growing area is temporary so I use CFL bulbs for two 16"x20" SGFC's. I'd rather do tube fixtures, but for now it is what it is. The bulbs are 23watt (100watt replacement), 6500K spectrum, 2030 lumens. This gives me approximately 188 lux per square foot per bulb at 12". With some breathing room between tubs I need to cover an area that's 36"x20". By raising my bulbs to 24" I can cover my babies pretty well, but doubling the distance also decreases the lux by 4 (the area is 4 times as large). I use 4 bulbs so my total is 8,120 lumens (2030 x 4). The lux calculator tells me that's 754 lux per cubic foot at 12", or 188 lux using 4 bulbs at 24" (754/4). Other factors effect how efficiently light is being used - bulb placement, reflection, diffusion, concentration, etc. - but hopefully this will give you a better idea of what you need for whatever you're growing!
*RR, when you see this let me know what you think. I don't want to add to the misinformation here so I'd like your input on this post and my lighting if you would be so kind!
I've spent a lot of time reading your posts and I've tried to incorporate your experience and positive results into my growing area. After reading your posts and debates about what's best I found it difficult to find a simple way to calculate what I actually needed to install. Somewhere along the line I read a post by you saying 150-200 lux on a 12/12 schedule is ideal for Cubes, but I wasn't able to find it again to verify that. I also saw your post saying that you can't have too much light up to the point of overheating. Any recent clarification I might have missed? Thanks RR...

Posting to research later.
-------------------- In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. [Carl Sagan, 1987 CSICOP keynote address]

ok awesome man. The posting can be a little confusing at first. The free air can be given by removing some of the polyfill or loosening them?

Yes, you should have 4 bottom holes and 2 top holes. Loose more the polyfil of the top holes, the bottom holes should remain tight. You should also have a small fan in the room to move the air, do not point the fan directly to the monotub holes.
