 Would anyone ever guess that you use drugs recreationally?

Would anyone ever guess that you use drugs recreationally? Does it matter? Do you work at keeping it secret from your, ahem, "vanilla" friends?
I'm a young married woman who goes to church, clean cut, respectful and always seen as wholesome. Most people would never guess that I have done "hard" drugs and would be shocked to find out my main hobby....

I don't mind if its known that I use... Its manufacturing I worry about. A lot of the hard stuff is kept secret. But smoking bud... that is in the open and it is the best way to be.

im pretty open about drug using to a lot of people.. its gotten me fired a few times but im not trying to pretend im something im not

That's kind of what I've been wondering about. About puffing in particular. Do people, acquaintances, in your life react poorly if they learn that you smoke? Does anyone really care that much about my way to unwind after work?

In the deep south, where I live, people aren't entirely chill.
Also, saying that I'm pretending to being something I'm not is incredibly inflammatory. There is no decree on what people must say, look or act to be a stoner.

I don't work on keeping it a secret, but I don't tell everyone I meet, if they ask me directly I don't mind letting them know but I generally find the types of people who would ask something like that are pretty chill about the whole thing anyways. My friends know I use recreationally, but acquaintances don't as its not really something I would raise in conversation until I got to know them enough to gauge what their reaction to something like that would be. If I don't tell people they are none the wiser, as I don't let it effect my day to day life.

My immediate family has no clue, but my friends...they just try to guess what I'm on that particular day.

well, Depends on the person, but often people i meet, have to ask if i smoke weeed. i have shaggy hair that im growing out to long hair. Im very healthy in appearance, have muscles like i would be an exercise freak. but I dont think people know that i chug robo, or grind up morning glory seeds.

I have no problem letting those around me know about my partakage in the weedage...if they want to judge me on that then fuck them and they can get lost.I'd much rather someone judge me on my work ethic and my morals,and how I treat those around me...for my volunteer works that I've done like a Katrina Car Wash I set up when Katrina slammed New Orleans etc.

Don't live a double life. I used to be a youth pastor and lead worship at my church. I was what you could call "respectable" and then I realized it was not who I was it was just how I was raised. You should either be open with people about who you are or make a choice to not be that person... just my two cents

I do hide from some, most probably know.
But the ones that don't would never guess!
kinda strange really, cuz I know all the people who use...
of course some of the =m hide it well too.

Just the way I look, most people think I'm a druggy, even tho I wear 3 pieces most of the time. I'm tall, I've long hair and a long beard. So even if I tryed I wouldn't do a good job hiding it. Yeah, some people (having a broostick stuck up their ass I suppose) do lack some respect. If it can be a natural selection of the people I talk to, so be it, I'm glad.
I do, however, keep my familly thinking I only did THX derived drugs. Better that way. Most of them are pretty open about it. I believe they have serious doubt about that, but as long as it doesn't come into open discussion, status quo is perfect for me.

Thinking about it I did told them about that time I did Morning Glories because it's so funny.

People who don't do drugs don't think I do drugs.
People who do do drugs would most likely guess that I do drugs.
Anyone I have a close relationship with I trust enough and don't hide it. I think you should judge things on a person by person basis though. You can get a good idea of what people think about drugs with out ever suggesting that you do drugs.

I let as many as I possibly can know just so I can get it out of the way. If they decide to not be my friend due to drug use, they probably shouldn't be my friend anyway.
I feel no problem telling co-workers and feel that if I can prove I am competent despite drug use, often times I'll be left alone or even highly respected. It is kind of impressive to do a bunch of drugs, wake up early (possibly do more drugs) and work a 40 hour week.

There are so many dumb people doing drugs, I just can't believe it...
I wouldn't tell it to anybody that I can't trust or control, druggy or not. And then my "vanilla friends"... I like them a lot but I'm sure they'd be quite insecure and maybe mad about that.
I don't identify with most people who do drugs. When I was young I considered drugs to be a way to elevated consciousness and I respected and identified with everybody who was doing drugs. But when I got older, just by watching all the different people I realized that the biggest part is always what you make of it.

Does anyone here have a significant other that is anti drug? My dad was married to a woman for 10 yrs, he had to hide his pot use from her. My gf and i have talked, both of us agree that its both or none when it comes to drugs!

People would probably never guess from looking at me that I've used illegal drugs. Some smarter people might wonder about it after talking to me or learning of my other more legal interests, but I doubt it just based on appearance. I look and dress as average as anyone else.

It all depends on the environment your in, in my opinion. Work is for work, drugs are for recreation. If you use them for recreation, then your usually (or at least should be) with your friends, not your boss or your pastor.
In todays world appearances mean a lot. I would not go in for a job interview stoned out of my mind in the clothes I wore yesterday without a shower.
There is, what I like to call, "etiquette," and appropriate behavior given the circumstances.
That being said, my friends know I smoke weed, my family knows I smoke weed but those are the only people I would ever willingly let know. It's not something I make an effort keep secret but it's also not something I'm open about. It just is what it is (for me).
That's just my opinion.

My family has no clue, I often even tell my family I'm off to take hallucinogens with a tone that says otherwise, though I may be doing exactly that. I'm open about it once I've gotten to know people and am certain their knowledge of it will be inconsequential. Every single person I've told has been shocked, and I've had to say "I'm totally serious" on most occasions. They never expect it, some say it's my face, some say it's the way I dress and talk.

I'd be cautious about letting anyone that you work with know about illicit activities, especially in Southern US where a lot of people have very backwards views about certain things. Recently a group of people were fired from my work because of a disgruntled employee that lost his job for other reasons told HR that a bunch of employees were users. All of the people he named were tested and some didn't pass. You never know who will be your friend today and foe tomorrow. At least if having the job is important to you, I wouldn't tell. If it's a job that you don't care about and you're trying to find people to hang out with, then perhaps letting them know wouldn't be such a bad thing. I'd still be cautious though.

No one would've ever guessed that I smoked pot except I tell people I do. Most are shocked, since I don't come off as a 'stoner'. I jog, renovate houses, I'm a good father and I believe an all round good bloke (bit of a wanker sometimes though I guess  ). Telling people I enjoy a puff is a good time to enlighten people on the LIES we've all been told about Hemp and recreational Cannabis use.

I totally agree and relate to this. It is curious how most other users know the obvious subtle hints, but non users are completely oblivious to even the most obvious things every now and then...

Long hair, bad piercings, black clothing...people know. Other drug users don't even have to ask me to know.
But I don't rub it in anyones face or anything. It's just not something that I care to hide. I'm usually to stoned for that kind of effort.

Personally I find most people are ignorant about drugs, especially the harder ones. I know a lot of you out there are saying don't hide who you are, but unless smoking defines you, you are not hiding who you are. Generally a good rule of thumb is, if they do it, they are okay to tell. If they don't do it, they are probably not the best person to tell, because whatever reason they have for not using it is probably going to then be applied to you. This is just my opinion.

Everyone thinks I 'blaze' but I don't. I just tell them that I'm naturally high all the time- and that doing so many psychedelics has made me that way

People always tell me that I look high, but I rarely if ever smoke weed.
I do enjoy my lucy and shrooms..but no one knows that I do those.

I've always had long hair and acted kind of spacey so lots of people thought I did drugs before I even tried them.
At this point a lot of people would guess by looking at me, but people who have actually talked to me often assume I'm not a drug user because I'm typically polite, well-spoken and a huge nerd. Some people are surprised when I tell them.

Some would some wouldn't I was really loud about it in high school, but it was only with a certain group. At other times I never really talked and people from those classes would be so surprised when I would show up at parties.
I'm still somewhat obvious about it (I'm in a college and working now.) The books I read show that I'm into psychedelics and I post about drug stuff on Facebook quite often, though I post about gay rights too, even though I'm straight. I think a good half of the people would know.

I think you're right about the ignorance bit. For most "non-drug users" I talk to the name of a drug generally contains all of the culturally conditioned ideas that the larger society (government & media) place on it, and often that's all the information they feel they need.
I used to be afraid of my family finding out that I smoked pot, but eventually I realized they just didn't know much about the drug and were concerned for me. Thanks to Erowid for clearing that up!

I find that it is always best to keep your life under wraps as much as possible. If you have friends who smoke, its OK to tell them you smoke but I wouldn't tell them you grow or anything. This way you are no more guilty of anything than they are if anything goes down.
But if they know you grow and they get popped for smoking they are more likely to rat you out to save their ass.
Its just best to keep those things separated for your safety and for the relationship.
I certainly wouldn't give any information until they do anyways.

I'm a young married woman who goes to church, clean cut, respectful and always seen as wholesome. Most people would never guess that I have done "hard" drugs and would be shocked to find out my main hobby....

Oddly enough, I often have a surprised reaction from people when I admit that I have done drugs. Of course the reaction is amplified when they hear the amount or the variety. hahaha. So I would have to say "no", most people wouldn't.
On the other hand: My girlfriend says quite often that I "look" like an addict/troublemaker... So there's that...
Probably depends on if the person is educated enough to tell the difference between a sober and drug experienced personality. (growing up with tweakers, you learn to spot one a mile away type of thing..)

I come off as quiet, shy, and innocent to most people. I also have a baby face which probably helps somewhat. I think many people would be shocked to find out the drugs I have done. Some of my friends/family know that I do weed, but that's the only thing. My parents would probably have a heart attack if they found out I did LSD and that it is my favorite.

Yes, not only recreation ally but I'm percieved as a junkie by most. When they find out I use psychedelics for spiritual reasons they almost jump out of their skin. Apparently I look like a sketchy crack-head...

Only my girlfriend and a couple of close friends (who are, by the way, totally against it) now this. I live in a small community, and (illegal) drug use is frowned upon where I live.
However, they don't have any problems with pharmacological drugs like prescription opiates and benzo's... I think that's just hypocritical.

Most people wouldn't know, but I like to keep it that way. I see my drug use as something to be share with only other drug users, usually a good shield for any broad or hypocritical judgments or misconceptions. Also, IMO it's a good sign that I can't tell, which it isn't obvious nor my usage out of hand.
