His look fine atm, but for the future its best to crush the perlite IME.

thats how mine have become to grow. they don't mind and don't really need to be crushed. just not good to water from the top thats all.

water from the bottom next time and this will be avoided.

and now for your POTM consideration. this butterfly was going wild and did not even mind the camera.

the first bug from "the flowers thread" was practically having sex with it. then it got scared and this beauty of a butterfly landed here and started another round. its a nice thing to know you don't have to do much to get seeds. they do all the leg work really.

Little buggers grow quickly. Too much perlite, though. Next time, I'll use mostly sand; this was a leftover from a mixture for my older cacti.

Do the seedlings need a dark period?

I have 2 peyote buttons I've been growing for about a year or two. They were 5 years old when I got them. Anyways, I know someone selling a peyote that looks like this for $200 Canadian. I really want it and ordered myself some peyote books so I can learn more about the plant but is that a good price? It would look pretty nice with my other two.

Sorry if this is a dumb question I read through this thread and don't really understand how you get "pups" to form. I have two peyotes in separate pots and they just look like single buttons. Do more buttons grow if I cut this initial button off the root or after time does it sort of bud off.

They may or may not get them as they mature.

You could cut (above the root) them and POSSIBLY produce more than one head, but the easiest way to force them is probably grafting.

Grafting tends to give the plant so much excess energy it needs to force pups out.
