No toxicology test was done on the man, no one knows what he had in his system. maybe he drank mushroom tea. maybe he didn't. maybe he drank mushroom tea then smoked a buttload of PCP. the whole argument you guys are having is silly.

Maybe in a broad sense, but don't we all "have that in us"? Is there anyone in here who is utterly without any violent nature? Violence is how humans beings survived for millenia, and we've simply learned to keep it under control in the context of civilization.
Honestly, hasn't anyone else here had a trainwreck trip before? One where you panicked and you were going to die, or where you saw some big conspiracy all around you? The main difference in this case was that the guy having the bad trip was a trained fighter with greater strength than most of us.

lol i totally agree with this. that should be one of the biggest and most carefully examined aspects of this incident.
also id hate to hear what people like Bill O'Reilly will have/had to say about this.
my heart goes out to all thos einvolved in any way in this tragedy. even the culprit. maybe in some kind of therapy session with psylocibin he couldve overcome whatever was goin on in his head to caused this to happen. R.I.P. Taylor Powell. 21 years young.

MMA is not the issue here, boxers punch people and have way more violence than MMA. nobody has died in a MMA competition but several have died in a boxing ring.
boxers beat each other in the head till one cant do it any more for up to 12 rounds
MMA is 3 - 5min rounds and usualy ends with 1 or 2 punches/kicks then it is over. lot less brain damage from 1 or 2 hits compaired to constant head shots for several rounds.
but competitive sports arent the issue here.
this guy had deep deep issues he was holding in or just plain had wires crossed to begin with.
everybody wants to blame something other than the actual person for not being able to handle an alternate reality.
he needs his head examined then lots of counseling to even begin to unravel what went wrong in his head during that trip.

There's no way it was first degree murder, the guy was shroomed out of his mind.
The ex-girlfriend was in the house when the murder happened and didn't even notice a guy's heart being cut out? That must have been some GOOD tea!!!
And sorry to rain on your perfect drug parade guys, but I believe this wouldn't have happened if there were no shrooms involved that night. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my shrooms. But there's a reason they are illegal other than the evil fun-hating squares who like to control everything.
They might make you go crazy and kill someone. You can say he had it in him. But hell, I probably have it in me too on enough shrooms.

I just wanted to state that the effects seem similar to a high dose of amanita muscaria tea. I've had high doses of that and LOST it. I don't use it anymore, but the tea can be completely bonkers if more than a few grams are used.
Normally, people don't act out on insane impulses on psilocybin containing mushrooms. However, I've surprised myself a few times by acting out on thoughts that were straight bonkers whilst on muscaria tea.
Let's face it, they were "idiots/fuck-ups", and prolly ordered "magic mushrooms" online, which would be the muscaria since they live in cali. But also, muscaria grows wild out there as well. (Well, almost everywhere, but very prominent in the West.)
They order "magic mushrooms", make a little tea with half the batch, (muscaria isn't very expensive), and with pre-existing mental conditions, the night ends like that.
I'd wager that there's a greater than 50% chance they would not find psilocybin or psilocin if they did a complete scientific investigation.
Now, I'm gonna go blow up this doll, I'm tired of my girlfriend working all the time.

And yet, amanitas are legal, while psilocybin mushrooms are not.
It does seem that most dangerous drugs are in fact legal, while harmless substances like marijuana are SCHEDULE I.

Let's face it- the reason we haven't heard more about this on the national news cycle, is that society doesn't care about filthy Juggalos killing each other.

The entire time I was watchin fear and loathing, I was thinking, "These people's reactions to drugs are so not what they should be." When they ate acid, they acted like they were drunk and being overly expressive. I can't remember exact details on the rest, but usually drugs are portrayed with bullshit effects in movies.

I've never had the urge to kill or otherwise harm anyone (or any THING for that matter) while on psychedelics, but YMMV.

hey Servant, you might be right, because that's one of the first things I thought of when the story broke
I used to live in Crescent City 15 years ago, and also in tiny Klamath at the California Conservation Corps in Requa, just off the reservation, where the murder took place
there are two kinds of shrooms that grow locally in Klamath that can possibly do that, liberty caps and Amanaita Muscaria, which grows right along highway 101, right near the paul Bunyan tourist place in Klamath

it's possible p cyanescens or p cubensis was involved, but I doubt it...It was with either libertys or muscaria
and 15 years ago when we were in the conservation corps, we used to rent a motel on 101 on the weekends and have shroom tea parties, with liberty caps and never had a problem. In fact, it was some of the fondest memories I have
Amanitas on the other hand.....I once tried those from the same patches in Klamath, and ate half of one once, and it was very very unpleasant....I'll never touch Amanitas again after that
The other thing is, if they made tea, it isn't like the shrooms will disappear, so there was probably cooked ones in a pot...and they didn't recover that and dry it?
because toxicology reports probably won't say much because much of the so called 'toxins' of psilocybe and muscimol goes away after a few hours
now, if I were a lawyer in Del Norte county court, I'd sure as hell start questioning that...the fact that there is and was physial evidence to determine the species of mushroom....and why would that be any different than say, a mushroom poisoning where people get taken to the hospital?..They sure as hell ask for any remnants of mushroom for ID purposes, fresh, dried, tea remnants or otherwise
because I can guarantee you one thing...you won't need a doctor to tell if it's amanita or liberties in that pot, even after it's been cooked for 8 hours
the only thing that happens with liberties is the color goes out of them and they look bland
so I mean, cmon...never mind what they say..where's the evidence?
