That looks like a nice patch Samfonzo, great photos too!

The rain is certainly working its magic around here. Had another decent find today. Didnt have camera with me to take photos of the hunt, but here's the haul:

It's not really cool to ask for specific areas to look on the forum man.
If you look back through from the start of this thread Sanchez (he started this thred) gives a really good breakdown of where to look.
Maybe if you look at his profile by clicking on his name and try reading his threads.

Pic of a small find this morning. 4th from the left hasn't bruised to much. I'm pretty sure the rest are active. The one on the bottom bruised but mainly on the cap. Anyone disagree?

Hey mate, if you want to confirm that 4th shroom flip that bitch over and rub the gills with your finger, the gills are very easy to bruise and should show quite quickly if its the good shit, looks good to me but, thats just a confirmation

Yeah, I found some pine trees last week and BAM! Subs popping up. But it might just be a coincidence with the rain this week too.

I found a bunch, probably my biggest find eva! will post pics tomorrow... I got questions though..

Some I found are already shriveled, a couple smell really bad (not like mushroom), so i'm going to throw all the crusty ones out....

Some of them fell apart before I got the chance to put 'em in me bag, threw them as well.

& some have really dark caps, like very dark brown and patchy almost black, darker than i've ever seen, dunno if i wanna eat these either, havent thrown them yet.

Its an extremely sad experience throwing subs away.

My questions are:

Would you eat old crusty looking subs? & is it safe to eat old ones, could i be putting my health at risk by eating old and possibly rotting ones?

NO THEY ARE FILLED WITH MAGGOTS, I PICKED SOME OLDER SUBS, PUT THEM OUT TO DRY OVER NIGHT WOKE UP IN THE MORNING TO FIND 1000'S OF BUGS WALKING AROUND.. SO IF YOU LIKE EATING MAGGOTS GO FOR IT..

Its safer not to eat the old, rotten or crusty ones. At least you know where they will pop up next time.

Hey all,

Back for now my second season, a quick question. After hunting today i thought i would take a few pieces of semi colonised bark/wood chip pieces and take them back some where a bit closer to home and put them in the same conditions in another leafy/pine needley, woody chip patches.

What are my chances of the woodchips colonising my new spots? and roughly how long would it be expected to fruit?

chances of colonization are extremely good, just make sure you get them underneath the current mulch layer, also dont let the myc dry out, get it into its new home ASAP. When you got a good spot pu the mycellium in and give it some water, not much, just enough to dampen the ground, I like to water beforehand, to let the moisture permeate the wood and soil.
As for fruiting, it varies, if conditions are good you may be lucky enough to get some fruit towards the end of this season, but more likely next season....

What sort of areas are you looking? Talk us through your thought process when you go out on a hunt. Where do you look? When? What are the conditions like? What sort of terrain do you focus on? How carefully are you looking?

Would u eat the dark ones below? apart from being dark they seem pretty healthy...

Fresh
(the light brown one in the middle was fresh, shriveled and smelt, i threw it out, i put it in the photo to show ya's what they looked like)

I believe the rotten ones had maggots  and they must have transferred to my biggest mushroom...

I found these bastards dried up under it:

I found one still in the mushroom, here's a photo of it, see if u can find it...
You can also see what they have eaten:

Sometimes they are dark like that due to spores depositing on the cap. When they are fresh try rubbing it with thumb or finger and see if it comes off. Usually you can tell if they are rotting because the stem will be all black and fall apart easily. Those ones in the fresh picture look like they just have spores on them.

Those bugs come with the shrooms when they grow in the wild like that. Even the freshest looking ones will probably have little bugs crawling around in them. They usually fall out and die when you dry them anyway. Plus theres not much harm in eating them.

Extra protein

Just dont eat shrooms that are all black and rotting, they WILL make you sick.

edit: Here's an example of spores on the caps making them look black:

went for a hunt today, no luck

the habitat i am searching in can be described as ''Being a very popular track, the sandy, stony track is very well worn, grassy woodlands, massive boulders and eucalyptus forest.''

the soil was moist but i think it needs more rain as ionly found sum very small orangy colored shrooms.
my question is
if the soil is sandy, would it be very unlikely that subs would pop up?
the temps have been good lately
maybe it just need more rain and better humidity
also wat sort of humidity is ideal?
im just trying to get all the habitat and weather factors correct as i have had no luck thus far and am worried i may be looking in sterile environments
