as you all probably know by now, i am a big big boxing fan. im always looking for good discussion on current boxing news. this forum is a little overrun by MMA and UFC..and i am fine with that, but personally not to big of a fan.
So...
the obvious question right now is....will Mayweather-Pacquio be the next fight on the docket, scheduled tentatively (for Manny, he will fight in november, opponent TBA) for November at Cowboys Stadium.
I think the fight can happen, but Manny would have to agree to blood tests. His stance of not taking blood tests inside 2 weeks to the fight led to the match not happening previously.
think about this, Mayweather, the self proclaimed Money man, already agreed to a 50/50 split of PPV $$$...and that is UNHEARD of from him. He always gets at least a 60/40 cut from his PPVs. That to me says how willing Mayweather actually is for this fight. But his insistence of the strict Olympic Style Drug tests is just enough to keep Manny reluctant (so far). the negotionation process is going to be long and this could very well be the biggest fight in the history of the sport, again...If it happens.

Lots of trash talking leading up to this bout...but Amir Kahn, fighting in his first bout in the US, used his 4 inch height advantage and reach to soundly beat up Malignaggi. TKO in the 11th. Kahn was defending his Super Welterweight Championship of the World at 140 lbs.

I was surprised by how much bigger Foreman looked at the weigh ins.
I think Miguel's fights with Pac and Marg took alot out of him.
Its fantastic that they are having this at Yankee stadium.

such a weird fight. i have never seen a fight stopped by a corner throwing in the towel, only to have the request denied by the ref and the fight continue.
it was clear that Foreman was injured and i am shocked the ref let the fight go into the ninth round. Cotto was on his A game, dominating with his jab and controlling the pace of the fight. Foreman was simply debilitated, he couldn't plant or move laterally. it killed him.
big win for Cotto and a huge bounce back fight. should be interesting to see where he goes from here. I have heard rumblings of a possible Pacquio-Cotto II if the mayweather/pac fight doesn't happen. this to me would be a huge disappointment.

I'm a HUGE Cotto fan, but Pac is just a terrible match up for him. Cotto vs Mayweather is the fight that needs to be set up. Cotto is a LOT stronger and has better handspeed than the decrepit Baldomir that Floyd ran from.

Big fight tonight. Amir Khan vs Danny Garcia on HBO. I'm actually somewhat surprised that this is not PPV. Khan's a pretty sizable name and Garcia is undefeated (23-0 or something like that).

Would they match up Garcia with Manny or Floyd next? Doubt it, but he'll certainly be in the discussion. Keep in mind that had Khan won this fight like he was favored to, there was considerable thought that he was going to be next in line for Floyd's post prison card.
And considering Garcia just took him to the shed...why not? Personally though I think he would get slaughtered by either, but it would be a nice $$$ draw nonetheless. On the surface that appeared to be a destruction of Amir Khan (which it pretty much was)...but if you look at the blow that sent Amir spiraling out of control -- it was a pure blind shot by Garcia. He wasn't even looking at Khan. He just fired wildly in an exchange and happen to hit the jackpot.

Garcia came in at 141 last night. Pac/Mayweather both fought at 147 in their last bouts. He'd have to move up, but barely.
The amazing thing is how much combined money that both Ortiz and Khan have collectively lost in the past 3-5 weeks. I mean we're talking like 15 million. Ortiz, had he won, would have had a guaranteed PPV HBO bout with Alverez. Khan would have had a better than 50% chance at a Mayweather card.
Now they're both completely starting from scratch. Boxing is a brutal, man. There's no "regular season" like basketball, football, or baseball to recover from.

And people might laugh hysterically at the number of losses...but at the end of the day, the guy still won 66 fights at the professional level.

Floyd's power is underrated, I agree. I just think Manny has more (even if it's somewhat slightly) power. What separates Floyd from Manny IMHO is that Floyd is a superior, pure technical boxer. Pac is more of a fighter than a boxer.
But if (GOD WILLING) it ever happens...I think it would be a GREAT fight. A lot seem to think it would be a one sided Mayweather decision. I'm not so sure about that.

So Bob Arum and Pacquiao are supposed to get together in a day or two to decide who Manny is going to fight November 11th.
It's supposed to be between a Bradley rematch or another Marquez bout. That would be number 4 between Manny and Marquez for those keeping count. Does the boxing public really want to see ANOTHER Marquez match up? Sure, the first three were all tremendously competitive -- but a fourth?! Seriously? And the Bradley fight, for all its controversy and drama after it, the actual fight itself was pretty tame and boring.
Isn't there another option out there? And to top it off there's rumblings about another Mayweather/Cotto fight. I mean it was actually a pretty good fight through the first half or so of the match, but ultimately Floyd won like 8 or 9 rounds of that fight. Does anybody think the outcome will be different the second go around for Cotto? Cotto's just too slow for Mayweather.
Too bad these pussies (both of them) can't agree on shit. Instead they keep feeding the public rehashes and reruns of other average fights when the one the public really wants...will never get.

I actually tought the Cotto/Mayweather fight was great from start to finish.A rematch would have the same outcome tho.

Yeah that was a bad move. Although I'm guessing anybody with skinny pockets and Showtime will have an easy decision -- no Sergio/Chavez and you still get a really quality, free (well free if you subscribe to Showtime) fight. But anybody with the extra funds is gonna go HBO PPV.
My plan is to get the Martinez/Chavez fight, and then DVR the Canelo/Lopez bout. I hope they don't say anything about the Showtime result during the PPV fight (which I highly doubt they would).

Yeah, I don't actually see this guy fighting Mayweather, I was just wishing out loud last night.
That being said, I don't really think that Floyd/Pac will ever happen either. There is just too much money, and too many greedy fucks involved. I don't even know if I care if it happens anymore either, because:
1. They should have fought long ago, when they were both in the prime of their prime, and
2. How can any fight live up to 4+ years of hype? Somebody would have to have their head knocked clean off of their shoulders and into the audience.
THAT being said, I really don't know who Manny would fight next...
I really hope he doesn't fight Bradley. Almost everyone believes he won that fight anyways, and a rematch would seem to legitimize the result. Sure, Bradley's got the belts, but who cares about belts nowadays?
The JMM fights have been entertaining, but Pac takes a pounding when he fights him...
I kinda think Manny's going to retire soon.

Man I love Pac -- but yeah, his hour glass is running low. Floyd, his style, it's built for the long haul. Manny's offensive style isn't. He's like an Allen Iverson. Little dude with superior athletic ability and blinding, once in a generation speed -- pure offensive firepower. But as he/they aged, the speed goes, and so does the career.
He probably has a few fights left and that'll be it.
As for Manny/Floyd, I honestly think that it will happen because of the reason you mentioned: there's just too much money involved for it not to happen. It will still be the biggest PPV fight EVER, and by a wide margin. Even if they are fighting this fight years too late.
Maybe I'm just naive but I believe 100% that it will take place at some point in time...and I think that time will be 2013.

Bob Arum is evil and sleazy and greedy, and Floyd Sr. is ignorant, arrogant, racist and greedy, and I can't see these two coming to any amicable agreement when it comes to how to slice the pie, no matter how big.

My theory is, and it's just a theory, but I believe both fighters actually prefer it to be well removed from their primes. That way a loss doesn't hurt their legacy nearly as much. That's a really interesting theory, I've never thought of it that way.
As for who wins, I'd definately be pulling for Manny too. I have a hard time picking a winner, because I have a hard time picturing either one of them losing. I guess the last JMM fight was iffy, and I've not seen any footage of his losses early in his career, but I've never seen Manny legit lose a fight. And Roid is undefeated...
I think you're right though. The Ricky Hatton Pac would have beaten (or destroyed) Money. Senator Pac?
Manny seems distracted now... but I guess Floyd is too, with jail and all that.

And yeah, Roach seems to be rapidly declining. But I will say this: he deserves zero blame for the Khan demolition at the hands of Garcia.
Roach told him multiple times to use his reach and not trade with Garcia. So what did Amir do? Trade with Garcia. Khan wanted to knock him out for all the stuff Garcia's Dad was saying. He took it very personally; it got in his head.
I still believe to this day that had Khan fought his usual style that he would have cruised past Garcia. There was no way Danny could get inside with Khan's reach. The only chance Danny had was for Amir to open up and trade. Khan played right into their hands that night.

I think one of the reasons that Manny has trouble with Marquez is that JMM has more experience fighting Manny than anyone else does.
I don't see Floyd knocking down Manny, either. He couldn't knock out Cotto, and Sugar Shane almost had him in the second round. Both fighters that Pac demolished.
My guess is decision Floyd. I'd really like to see him get KTFO before he retires, though. Bernard Hopkins too.

And ya know, it wouldn't shock me at all if Manny found a way against Floyd. I'm with public opinion that the odds aren't in his favor, but fucking Manny is a gamer. He thrives in that underdog role -- that me against the world mentality. And that's a role he really hasn't had in a while, and certainly for the first time in a LONG time he'd be a sizable dog if he and Floyd were to step in the ring.
And you know that crowd would be pro-Manny. Hell the crowd was pro-Cotto against Floyd. Half the people that buy Floyd's fights buy them in hopes that he'll lose. Pacquiao would feed off that atmosphere. If he were to catch Floyd (and granted this would be the near impossible part) leaving that door cracked a tad...allowing Manny to unleash one of those vintage Pacquiao flurries...I mean who knows.
Wouldn't shock me at all.

I will be watching college football all day and I dont know any places out here that have the fights on. Even the Casino's out here dont show the fights. I have no idea why but they dont. Actually, I do know 1 bar that will have the fight on, but I am not sure which one.
I got my Sun Devils playing @ Missouri tomorrow afternoon, so depending on whether they win or loss will determine whether I feel like going out to the bar to watch boxing 
Just heard as well that Paciquao has his fight set for Marquez IV on December 5th. I think I would have rather seen him rematch Timothy Bradley, but whatever. Paci is a juicer

The juicer tag on Pacquiao to me is a shame. The guy has the same drug testing that the entire world of boxing does. The same ones that Floyd Mayweather does. Has he failed any? Floyd planted the seed though in the minds of the public though, and now everybody believes it. And lmao, Floyd's reasoning was that there's no possible way a little asian "could beat guys like Hatton & Cotto worse than me".
Until he fails a test, like Lamont Peterson and others have done so in the past, I have no reason to believe that Pac is on steroids. It's all just baseless speculation.

Something like 110, but that was like 17 years ago when the guy was still pre-20. Now he fights between 140 and 147. I mean is it impossible for a human being over the course of nearly 20 years add 30 to 37 pounds of muscle? Please. I mean with the way guys train today, that's nothing.

Holy FUUUUCCCK. Those last 2 minutes of the Chavez/Martinez fight were incredible. After Sergio dominated for 11 rounds he had to hang on for dear life for 90 seconds with wobbly legs after nearly getting knocked the fuck out.

Wow is right. That final round...I don't know how it stacks up all-time, but it was certainly one of the best I've ever seen. Sergio was saved by the bell. And that's why I love boxing. You can DOMINATE 11 rounds of a 12 round fight -- yet still be in jeopardy of losing in one exchange.
Fucking epic final round.

Agree. No need for a rematch whatsoever.
However, if Sergio can't get a shot at Floyd or Canelo, then I can almost guarantee you that they'll push for another PPV Sergio/Chavez fight...solely because they know they'll make a ton more off it. Chavez fans will pack the house and buy a zillion PPVs, and they now believe (rightfully or wrongfully) that Chavez can beat him simply because of that 12th round. I think it's wrong, but you know they believe it.
The PPV numbers would be strong for a rematch.

actually many of my mexican friends are not satisfied and even dislike chavez jr now (if they liked him before)

Definitely got the sense that Chavez Jr. was walking through his punches. And yeah, the size difference is glaring. JCC is just a naturally much bigger dude.
I actually have changed my tune on the rematch...I do want to see it actually. JCC will come in with a much greater confidence the next time now that he knows he can severely hurt Martinez, and subsequently Sergio will be coming into the next fight in all likely hood much more careful and apprehensive than he was in the first bout.

Yeah I also think that if Jr. goes for the knockout early in the fight he will expose himself too much and get caught clean. However, Jr. kept on walking through Sergio's punches when they fought, so the way i see it anything could happen.
Like that danny garcia/erik morales fight. Garcia admitted that he showed way too much respect for morales in their first fight. I think Jr. showed too much respect for Maravilla too and in a rematch he won't, knowing that he can knock him down.

Yeah I'm still in shock, SD. Considering MP hadn't hit the canvas in a looooong time, seeing him put to the mat not just once -- but twice violently was surreal, man.
I think Pac needs to call it a career. It would suck for this to be the lasting image of him, but really, what victory is out there that would redeem himself from this? There's only one fight which would do that and that would be fighting and beating Floyd. And first off, the value of that fight has dropped ever so significantly after Manny's destruction last night, and secondly, how in the world could a Manny Pacquiao who just got brutally demolished by a 39 year old fighter have a chance in hell of beating Floyd Mayweather?
It will be interesting to see what route the Manny camp takes but I for one think he needs to hang it up before he damages his legacy even further.

Hey SD, do you think Manny will keep fighting? Or more importantly should he keep fighting?
And one has to at least wonder...maybe Floyd will be more eager to make the fight with Manny now? Not that it would matter much anymore because that fight is 3 to 4 years too late (plus Manny just got demolished in front of the entire boxing public) -- but it would still command a huge payday. And Floyd seeing Manny get rocked twice in the fight, he's probably thinking A) I get to add Manny to my resume and B) I'll add another 5 or 6 dump trucks of hundred dollar bills to my bank account.
The fight may be completely irrelevant now but it would still assuredly set the PPV buys record by a mile. And it would still be the single biggest paydays in their careers.

After he knocked down Marquez you could tell that at that moment he made the decision to abandon any and all defense and tried to walk him down until a stoppage. And he had Marquez against the wall, too. Pac was starting to take over, but he was completely reckless and showed zero respect for Juan's power...which is odd because JMM floored him just a couple of rounds prior.
And then he paid DEARLY for it. He got Ricky Hatton'd. I don't see how he'll ever be the same after that. I mean there's no fight out there other than getting in the ring and beating Floyd that will erase what happened on Saturday. I mean shit even if he rematches JMM and wins by decision that still won't make up for that brutal KO.
I'm sure he won't but he should probably hang it up.

I don't think he will either, hopefully he will get back in the ring but I have to admit I thought he was dead for a sec - brutal knockout. Never seen JMM lay someone out like that. Though I don't want the PacMan permanently hurt, he seems like a genuinely good guy outside of the ring. Maybe he should hang up the gloves - he has a whole other career ahead of him.

Honestly, as much as I'd like to see a rematch -- because that was an epic 6 fucking rounds -- it is kind of pointless. Well outside of the money that is. I mean if Manny avenges the loss, then what? Fight #6? When does it end? This was supposed to be the end all and it ended as emphatically as it could.

right. think about it like this. if pac would've knocked marquez out, would he be giving him a rematch? hell no, the dust would be settled and everyone would assume that pacquiao is a superior boxer, that's not quite true, marquez is the most elite of the two.
and the way pacquiao got knocked out, nasty. who could erase that from their memories?
Anyways, i remember marquez saying in an interview in spanish that he was gonna retire (this was when he was upset about the results of their 3rd encounter) and that before he retires he would fight only pac and no one else.
i feel sorry for pac, but i can't look at him the same way as i did prior to watching him dead on the canvas.

Yeah it will be a hard (or probably even impossible) image to erase from people's memories...although it has happened to the best of them. Lennox Lewis & Roy Jones to name a few.
Check this interview clip out. It was post fight, I believe the morning after. Anti-Pac fans will laugh at it but seriously, you gotta respect the passion. I mean the guy just banked 30 million the night before yet he still can't hold back the tears and emotion from losing. They train for nearly half a year for that one hour in the ring...man it has to be tough to go out like that, especially when you have an entire country behind you.

Yep I was rotting for MP but I'm really happy for JMM. He is also a class act. He's the man of the hour in the boxing world right now and I couldn't be more thrilled for the guy.
And speaking of JMM -- I'm going to be attending the Donaire/Arce fight this Saturday in Houston (it will be on HBO), and Marquez is supposed to be ringside. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Actually to say he outright refused them is inaccurate -- he just refused to take the test within 24 hours of the fight, which is what Floyd was demanding. Pac said he'd take the test immediately after the fight though. His reason? Because he felt drawing blood before a fight would/could weaken him. Retarded fucking reason I know, but he agreed to taking a test as soon as the fight was over so whether or not they took it within 24 hours of the fight or right after, if he was on PED's they would have caught it regardless.
Floyd rejected this.
Conclusion? Both are fags for this. Manny's a bitch for refusing to take the test within 24 hours of the fight (I mean come on, it's a tiny bit of blood and Floyd would have had to do the same thing), and Floyd is an equal bitch for rejecting a post fight test (if he was looking for PED use it would have been caught either way).

I saw Jean Pascal at a fight in Vegas right after he lost to Hopkins getting interviewed and hes like i am the greatest, so right after the i was like why'd you lose to hopkins then ya pussy? and he got all fucking pissed and said some shit in french and left real quick.

Khan got hit with a handful of return shots that were very Danny Garcia-esque, but Molina lacked the power to do anything with them. I honestly didn't see anything different in his technique/approach that he had when he was under Freddie. But...yeah, Khan's speed is sick as fuck. Some of those crazy combos he be launching are absolutely ridiculous in terms of speed. He's talented, no doubt.
And I was at the Donaire fight: he definitely made quick easy work of Arce. Another cool thing that happened there -- well for me at least -- me and a friend were drinking a beer in the club area in the stadium and Guillermo Rigondeaux sat two tables away from us. Dude was getting mobbed for pics & autographs...he would have time to sit down and eat like one french fry between the never ending line of people coming up to him. Credit to him tho as he was really gracious and never once look annoyed.

It looked like he was ducking Rigondeaux for a little bit -- well either that or he legitimately believed that Rigo had no business in the same ring as him. Because you gotta remember in and around Nonito's weight classes, he's the money man. Rigo is a outstanding talent and an extremely high risk opponent, but has only 11 professional bouts under his belt.
Most of his work was in the amateurs, where he is considered one of the best ever.
But, it seems like Donaire is wanting both Mares & Rigondeaux in 13'.

That's what i was thinking; if bradly won against devon, and pacquiao crearly outpointed bradly, then floyd will most likely dominate him, plus yeah, a boring fight.
guerrero sounds like a better deal, because of his style of fighting, and because they're fighting may 4 and guerrero is mexican.
rios/alavarado sound exciting as hell. i think mike alavarado can pull the upset, but i'll go with rios because i want rios to be in more epic battles later on against danny garcia, matthysse, or some one else.
austin trout canelo sound solid. i'm pretty sure danny garcia can stop judah in their upcming bout this february.

Honestly,I saw the fight and didn't even look at the decision - I expected the Russian to get the score on the cards. The knockdowns were so clear to me that I didn't think Bradley had a chance, especially the last knockdown in the 12th, Bradley did good but the Russian guy got robbed IMO.

Bullshit he fought terribly. He had a few good bursts, that doesn't win you a fight though. Dude had no finesse and no style he was just the prototypical bruiser. Just compare their faces after the fight..... Russian probably still cant see.

I think Bradley won the match based purely on punch output, but there's no doubt that of the two of them, he was the one that took the worse beating. If Provodnikov had gone to the body at all, I'm pretty sure he would have KO'd Bradley.
If the first knockdown had been counted, it would have been a draw on 2 judges scorecards.

I doubt it. Part of the reason he lost is because he fought a dumb fight. He definitely could have won, and probably should have. He fought like a dumbass though. Punched himself out in the first 2 rounds and lost rounds 3 through like 10 pretty solidly. I forgot which boxer said it but hes right Freddie Roach is done.
Its only natural to go to the hospital after a concussion. The russian had to go get stitches.
I liked the Russian until his interview. He acted like a Dbag and not in a funny way like Mayweather does.

Honestly I saw the fight one more time and i had Bradley winning. the more clean punches were of bradley. Sure Provodnikov looked like the fucking devil, smiling like a jackal and making bradley look the most hurt we've seen him. Yet, bradley showed tremendous heart and accuracy.
i heard max saying something about a top rank welterweight tournament that involves the winner of this fight (they both won - the russian is now known in America), the winner of alvarado - rios (good thing they stopped it on time in the 1st fight, huh?), and possibly and marquez pacquiao 5.
floyd ain't going to 160, i don't see that, though with floyd you never know. With that two year contract with showtime i can actually see floyd fighting sergio martinez as a reality.

Showtime PAID Floyd 100million+ for a 6 fight deal.
HBO got tired of Goldenboy taking all their top fighters to showtime and the Floyd deal was the ice breaker.So HBO was like...if you wanna box on HBO you cant be promoted by GBP.
Ballsy move but HBO had to do something...and Showtime wont be able to pay all the fighters so HBO hoping some of them jump ship(like Broner rep by Hayman but he basically GBP).
