Now here's a question regarding NSW sub hunting: has anyone ever had any luck finding subaeruginosa in pine plantations? I've been mushroom picking in NSW pine plantations my whole life (Slippery Jacks and Saffron Milk Caps, mostly) and never noticed them, or any other active mushrooms. At least one of my fungi field guides suggests that they're occasionally found among pines... The gourmet mushroom season is in full swing and it'd be nice to diversify on my next trip out...
Some incredible hauls there, Sanchez. You must have a large fridge for all your dried treats!
Apparently they do grow in pine forrests but not in large groups like they do in eucalypt - so i reckon you are better off sticking to the tried and true areas unless it is an absolute necessity.

I don't think cubes grow in winter. Maybe head south for some subs?

Cheers mate, got a pretty good stash happening so far
I have personally never found any subs in pine plantations - and I have checked quite a few. I stick to wet eucalypt areas nowadays with great results

Just had a quick search but I can't find any species that will be around June - August. Unfortunately you prob will need to travel to Southern NSW. Does anyone know when Panaeoleus Cyanescens season ends it QLD, I assume it is prob same season as Cubies i.e Summer. Maybe do some research on them, or even Gymnopilus Junionus. I have no personal experience hunting in QLD, but I am sure I saw threads of people finding cubes or panaeoleus cyanescens in May / June?
Will you be in SA / Melbourne until then? Best bet is to find as many Subs as possible before you head to Queensland. NSW/VIC season should really start to kick in late April.

Hi everyone! I'm back and preparing for the new season. Unfortunately the neighbours haven't gone back overseas quite yet, so I can't raid or even check out their garden.
I'm planning to do some hunting next Friday and was wondering if you think I should bother or not, based on the following weather forecast...
(I'm thinking those dew points might help things along just enough to see some results?)
Would love to have some for a big camping party down in the southern highlands next weekend.

I'd check it out. A few degrees lower for max and min temps would be ideal (16 max, 8 min), but there could be a few popping up Let us know how you go

Nothing but warm weather and no rain around here, I'm going outside to do a rain dance. If that was a quick hunt what do you take on a big hunt a box trailer ? Well done man, I can't wait for things to chill around here.
