thanks a bunch pong! i've been browsing ektoplazm the past few days, finding a bunch of stuff. can some one explain the difference between goa and psytrance though? i see on this top 10 list they have them as seperate categories... i thought they were the same? and what about darkpsy? a lot of the stuff i've heard so far sounds "dark".
what is exactly categorizing these things?

darkpsy - triplag radio
the categorization i have noticed from people trying to sell cds is not the same as those that talk about the music.
the term goa is used to sell lots of different types of psytrance because it is famous.
goa trance is hard for me to describe but it has its differences in style just get all over that free site and you will see.

My Online Jewish buddy DoItAgain at the Growery, an actual Psy-Trance Dj (so jealous!) has got the same Idea! Good thing you started it here, because there is none here...
My favorite from his posting is this one called...

^I first thought it was called "Timecode", but that's just the album name. But the track is CrAzY! Has my favorite kind of Psy in it....CraZy Vocal edit Psy-Trance. Love IT! So intense...

I just think psytrance isn't that good as all the rest  . Infected mushroom, logic bomb that kind of shit is cheesy and weak (no offence to the fans/listeners, everybody has their taste)

psytrance is not as good as all the what other psy?

when i say psytrance, i refer to all the subgenres and everything.
i think electronic music suffers from excess genres, and it confuses me so i simplify it for myself.
darkpsy is psytrance that feels creep/insane and has high bpm.
goa trance is psytrance with that distinctive goa kick and heavy in the synthesizers.
progressive trance is psytrance that has lower bpm and makes me feel sleepy.
morning psy is psytrance that cycles between progessive to full on over and over again in single tracks.
full on is all other psytrance.
but that's just me speakin, i can't remember swamp psy and all that.
infected mushroom is not really psytrance these days, though elements are trance still remain. I still like their old stuff though, that stuff is classic and will never be old.

Very nice break-down...its exactly what DoItAgain said at the Growery...
But you forgot a couple, which I learned from under "Trance" Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music. It doesn't break it down as much as you Shivas.Wisdom, but it has the basics.
1) Goa Rock/Butt-Rock or Goa-Metal /// Example: Old Infected Mushroom like "None of this Is Real" (which is awesome)
^It combines Metal and Goa Psy-Trance, which are actually quite similar if you think about it. I think of Psy-Trance as like Hippy-Tripping Metal, but that's my....
2) Minimal Psy-Trance/Psy-Tek /// The example at Ishkur's site is Aphid Moon - "A Lot of Radio"
Its minimal Psy-Trance, My least favorite genre of Psy....That's what makes Psy-Trance itself: complexity.
3) Booty Psy-Trance/Psy-Booty /// I've only found one example-> LifeStyle - This is da House (GMS RMX).
^Very new genre which combines Ghetto Booty-Bass Miami-style with Psy-Trance. Very rare, but its out there occasionally. There's also a company in Seattle, WA called "Psy-Booty" which spin these kinds of mash-up genres, so its out there, just not much of it.
