Need ids on shrooms found. Nsw Australia
    #12229063 - 03/19/10 02:39 AM (1 year, 10 months ago)

Was out hunting today found these in a rainforest, mostly growing in rich soil, of mulch, of trees and yeah. The main one, the biggest one i think might be active, hoping someone could confirm what it is. it was growing next to a tree in the ground. Its very big and heavy for its size. Stem hasnt turned blue but there are blue patches on the underside of the cap and when u squeeze it turns a light bluey colour. So mainly i want the big mushroom id'd, all the other ones in the other pics are what i think arent active, any id's with them wuld be a bonus, especially that blue one wtf lol? found a few red ones to but they obviously werent active. Found in the watagan mountains in NSW Australia. Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated.

Blue one looks like Entoloma hochstetteri. Not active but a cool find.

Others look like Russula sp. and the big one is Bolete of sorts. They're not active and the bluing is a chemical reaction but not an indicator of the alkaloids you're after. These also have pores and not gills, so that rules them out being active for a start. Maybe someone knows more...

Some poisonous Boletes are known for bruising blue, so definitely don't eat that one you found (the big one). Although some non-poisonous Boletes bruise blue as well, it's better to be safe than sorry though (it's not active at all either)

When hunting, you want mushrooms with gills, not pores under the cap.

Have a read through these pages, they will most likely help you a fair bit:

The blue one is Entoloma virescens, the big bolete is probably a Tylopilus or one of it's sister genera (Porphyrellus, etc) probably poisonous...
And a couple of Russula and a couple you need to show us the gills on.

What is the difference between Entoloma virescens and Entoloma hochstetteri?

I thought it was weird to call this blue mushroom from Australia E. hochstetteri, because as far as I was aware E. hochstetteri was a New Zealand species, now I know the truth.

Thanks for the link Biteme! :sun:
