Canberra said: I went for a hunt today in some wood chips and gum trees around the lake looking for good patches (I usually hunt in the mountains and was looking for places closer to home).
My god I found so many damn Stopharias! Hundreds of all shapes and sizes in huge patches (we haven't even had any rain for two weeks). In one patch I found you couldn't even walk without stepping on a whole bunch.
I have never even seen a Stropharia Aurantiaca and here they are by the thousands. I thought maybe since they apparently grow in the same kind of areas as subs there would be some nearby, but no dice.
have you ever had any luck finding subs growing near gum trees? i think alot of the bushlands where ive been looking around locally have many gum trees, but generally i always thought subs didnt fruit in such a habitat and were more likely to fruit in pine and eucalypt plantations, but i would be wrong! any suggestions or tips from sydney hunters out there?

First thing to do is find the habitat, which you have done, they do grow on leaflitter etc as this is what they naturally grew on before we made perfect little mulch beds for them. Secondly, check UNDER the leaf litter etc for mycelium, this indicates the presence of fungus, not necessarily subs, but it narrows it down and stops you looking in sterile areas. When you do find a patch, SPREAD THAT SHIT, pick a shroom with mycelium attached, cut the mycelium off, place on wet cardboard and place in a cool damp place, the mycelium will colonize the cardboard and you put that shit in the mulch bed nearest your residence, hopefully the fungus will take off and you will no longer be traipsing around the countryside looking for patches

Bliss n Eso new song, Down by the River, has some interesting lyrics in relation to Syd City Shroom hunting -
"Eso Yeah, fun house is open, and now the sundowns approachin', the boat shed is where I live it up all day and magic mushrooms litter the walkway,"

Defiantly in my top 3 Skip Hop acts.
Saw them live a few times last year - Once at the Metro for their Album release where they filmed a DVD of the Concert. The Metro is a great venue, was rolling balls and had a great night.
Some of their older songs have lyrics about Shrooms as well - I will have to listen to their back catalogue and upload the lyrics.
Great to see Australian music talking about taking shrooms being played on JJJ for everyone to listen to

Found these in a garden bed near by. This is my first hunting season and I want to make sure they're subs before I eat them with some mates. Could anyone help me confirm?

looks like subs to me, the apparent blue bruising and the white stems and brown wavy caps seems like u got urself sum good mushies if ur still in doubt i would wait for a trusted I.D but if i was you i would already be quite confident enough to injest them beautys nice work also if i was you i would do a spore print just to confirm ur suspicions or not should be purple-black, purple-brown if my memory serves me right (which it normally doesnt, so dont quote me on that)

definately subs, spore print them tho, and observe them lots before you eat them. So you can assure yourself next time. Just make sure they all bruise blue. Therez one in the pic that i cant see any bluing on but i think its just the angle of photography. Congrats and enjoy!!
edit: just checked again there all definately subs
