Yeah, these are Paneolina foenisecii - inactive.

They can be active in rare conditions, very rare, know from experience. Don't make blanket statements. No one knows it all. Too many variables in regional climatic, nutrient, etc. conditions.

I think there's a Panaeolina species that is active, but it isn't foenisecii.

St. George's mushrooms (Calocybe gambosa) will be coming into season next month around the time of St. George's Day (23 April).

I've read that they are a great edible so I hope to find some this year.

Mystery, I remember when you found your first bunch in the Autumn, what can you tell me about what you think about mushrooms, and how many did you find in the end in terms of grams/dose.

Yeah i only found about 2 good trips worth but i stayed in my town so i was limited on where i could hunt. Hopefully the patches grow bigger this year so i can harvest more  Also i used about 2 gram per trip which was a good trip

Well, I didn't find many last year. I have never had mushies. I found 3 libs that i know of. But in the fields near my house there are tons of different mushies, but none look typical of what I can I.D, so I just left them there. For all I know they could have been some good actives in there, but I really need a field guide I can take with me, or maybe we can have some kind of camera link up to the site where I can get a live I.D in field. We got to use new tech to make that job easier

SpacedTime,
You can be sure of finding hundreds of libs there come late summer or autumn, and a little help here will be all you need, once you know them they aren't that hard to distinguish.  I just started picking last autumn, and couldn't mistake anything for a lib anymore.

QFT. I just started last autumn and I already feel like a pro when it comes to spotting libs. When you see them in real life you get a feel for them, almost; it's strange.

hehehhe, yeah. Terence Mckenna would say they want to be found.

Last year at the the end of the summer I found 3 Amanitas, I was just thinking how I would like to just come across some, maybe with some Elves dancing around and a fairy buzzing around my head, then asif to answer all my dreams, I found 3 right on the path I walk everyday to get to work. It was cool. No forest creatures though. But on the way home I did see a little dog carrying a big stick. <does Homer Simpson giggle>

If you want to see those forest creatures I think fungal consumption may be the only option... and no I'm not talking about Mycobacteria.

Stumbled upon a few small mushrooms on top of a local camp today.

Small, almost copper looking colour, black underneath. I took a couple of photos on my phone which I'll try and get up here. They didn't look active, still intrigued as to what they may be.

Any clues as to what mushrooms grow in early the UK's spring?
