1,000 pot plants found near govt office March 19, 2010 - kjct8.com
GRAND JUNCTION - An odor leaking into the Grand Junction U.S. Census office led police to a forest of marijuana plants growing next door. Police executed a search warrant Tuesday night at an industrial complex off of Patterson Road.
A tip led police to a suite in that building, where they found more than one thousand marijuana plants.
According to the search warrant, an employee with the census bureau next door smelled a chemical odor coming from the vent in their office. When police investigated, they noticed suspicious activity and got a search warrant for the suite in question.
Police contacted the owner of the building, Sid Squirrel, who's a realtor for Bray.
He told police the marijuana plants belonged to him and he was growing them for a medical marijuana dispensary in town. Squirrel claims he's growing the marijuana legally.
Meanwhile, the census bureau office shut down.
"Out of the concern for the health and safety of our employees, we did temporarily close our office down. We're continuing to work with the building owners to get everything figured out. Good news is operation was not affected in any way," said Brian Meinhert with the local census bureau.
The Grand Junction census office re-opened Wednesday and will continue with business as usual. According to the search warrant, police found more than 300 file folders in the suite next door with copies of medical marijuana patient's cards.
Police are checking records to see if they have enough card holders to support the growth of the more than one thousand marijuana plants found. We contacted the owner of the building and could not reach him for comment. So far no one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

I guess it was because the chemical smell? Maybe they thought nutes would poison them or something *shrug* lol.

She's standing in the ashes at the end of the world
