Seriously though, when I believed in reincarnation, I was convinced that I was the reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix. I was tripping on acid once, and the song "1983... A Merman I shall Turn to Be" came on (I was in fact listening to Electric Ladyland which is, IMO the greatest album of all time), which just solidified it for me... I mean come on... 1983, the year I was born... a merman I shall turn to be, I have spent most of my years in water, I am the best swimmer of anyone I know, was competing with 15 year olds when I was 9, I have a strong affinity for water, I could literally swim before I could walk, I could go on about it...
Hendrix is my biggest influence when it comes to playing guitar (have been playing for 13 years now, have made a successful career of it, and teach professionally to beginner and advanced students,) and everyone in my high school knew me as that guitarist who was into Hendrix. I was very prodigious when it came to guitar (and music in general), and advanced immeasurable faster than any other guitarist I knew. I even went to visit his grave site in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Seattle, WA. When I got to the gravestone, I got this very strange feeling in my stomach, and proceeded to get very light headed. On top of all that, my nose started bleeding. I have not felt that way before, or since. It was really bazaar.
During that aforementioned acid trip, I saw his soul being turned inside out into mine, like one turns a sock inside out.
However, these revelations came in a time when I believed in reincarnation. Now I do not. I dont want to get into the whole argument of sides and such, but I would rather not have to decide. Besides, "Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesnt go away" (Phillip K. Dick).

And am one stellar guitar player.

Well I took lesson's from age 12-15. Then I really started to get involved and develop a passion for it playing for 3-5 hours a day. At the start I would play half hour to an hour, but once you get better and have more freedom you will find yourself playing for a long time.
Practice everyday, but also play everyday - 2 separate things.
I was classically trained - which I begged my dad to take me out of guitar lesson's because it was soooooo boring. But he denied and I kept on.
Once you get through the hard shit, it's clear sailing.
Learn some scales and chords, then jam to your favorite songs. Once you can do that, search for harder and harder pieces to stimulate your brain.
Then, once you get really good, you can write some really good music!

yeah i played other instruments and picked up the guitar about 6 years ago. i feel like i dont have any structure b/c i play by ear, i took piano theory and years of music theory in general but i havent been able to lock down my guitar playing. I was in a band and that fell apart so since then ive been kinda jaded about playing guitar. i went and got a badass amp hoping that would get my back into it, and it didnt. so now im getting rid of my guitar and buying a more comfortable one. i know i can do it, i gotta just get truly motivated about it.

A great free program is "powertab" I'm not sure if you've used it or not, but I find it very helpful.
Just go and download any powertab from ultimate-guitar.com and open it in the program.
plays through the song with the notes highlighted, makes it really easy to learn new pieces.
