K2 ban will be law in days March 10, 2010 - cjonline.com
K2's days are numbered.
Gov. Mark Parkinson on Wednesday signed into law a ban on the synthetic chemicals that make up K2. Unlike most new laws that go into effect July 1, the ban will begin upon publication in the register — as early as Thursday but more likely March 18 or perhaps March 25.
“This legislation has received overwhelming support by Kansas law enforcement and the Legislature,” said Parkinson. “It will help improve our communities by better equipping law enforcement officers in addressing this issue and deterring Kansans from drug use,” he said.
The signing of HB 2411 marks the seventh bill signed by the governor this session.
Law enforcement officials, particularly in Johnson and Douglas counties, complained that although K2 has been sold as a legal incense, the chemicals in K2 mimic the effects of marijuana when smoked. They said the drug had become popular among teenagers and parolees because it was legal.
K2 drew the attention of lawmakers early in the session. While a few lawmakers questioned the need for the legal change, the legislation quickly rolled through both the House and Senate. Supporters said the long-term health consequences of smoking the substance were unknown and people needed to be protected from potentially toxic effects.
The bill adds to the state's controlled substances law two chemicals found in K2, JWH-018 and JWH-073; another synthetic cannabinoid, HU-210; and BZP and TFMPP, which work together to mimic the effects of Ecstasy. The bill makes it illegal to possess, use or sell the drugs.

werd. I vow for coffee to be illegal as well...along with alcohol and cigs...because we have to deter everyone from using drugs.
In conclusion...Television should also be outlawed because it affects the way your central nervous system operates and is administered from outside the body. I say good day sir.

This just gives more money to dealers. Why bother with k2 if it's illegal when you can get some real mj?

Makes more money for dealers cause now the dealers can just sell this stuff and get all the profit, it's easy enough to make. Some people still want it who have to worry about drug testing. This will just raise the prices.

Actually, it will be interesting to see what happens once the JWH and other related synthetic cannabinoids are made illegal. While I think that grass or hash will always be preferred by the vast majority of the populous, JWH-018 is dirt cheap and very easy to smuggle compared to marijuana. Perhaps we will see an explosion on the illegal market. I don't think it will ever conquer grass, but perhaps it will be added to Mex. compressed brick. I wonder how long it will be until we see a police dog trained to detect the JWH series.

I believe it'll be pretty popular simply because compared to other illegal drugs the JWH synthesis is very very simple, and lets face it many drug dealers are on probation and can't smoke weed.
Dealers have already been selling it in my area for a couple months. Headshops sell the blends for $30 a gram so these guys buy it in bulk offline and then sell it for $10 a gram. I know a guy selling it by the pound already and it's not even illegal yet.
