17 Arrested in Austin Drug Cartel Bust
March 8, 2010 - myfoxaustin.com
AUSTIN, TX - The Austin Police Department and 12 other local, state,
and federal law enforcement agencies announced Monday they have wrapped
up a long term investigation into a local drug ring with ties to the
Gulf Cartel.
A total of 17 people have been arrested and three others have
indictments pending for their alleged involvement with the Mexican drug
organization.
Operation Kumbaya concluded Friday after six years of investigation.
Law enforcement agencies conducted 13 search operations on Feb. 3 and
4th. During the sting, officers seized approximately 14 kilograms of
cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, 16 firearms, and between $350,000
to $400,000 in money and other assets. The operation was code named
Kumbaya because of the way the 13 law enforcement agencies worked
together during the investigation.
Police say the cell operating in the Austin-area served as a
distribution hub for drugs going into the United States and money going
back to Mexico. The Gulf Cartel is one of the largest drug operations
in Mexico and is responsible for much of the violence along the
U.S.-Mexican border.

They should have atleast given themselves credit and said it was a couple month investigation.

i think they became aware of the source that eventually led to this bust six years ago, and they mention that long duration because they want it to seem like they caught a very elusive bunch.

I have logged in this once so that I can set the "last seen" feature up. let the faggots flow forth into OTD and have it. Its funny how they all grew nuts after I left. I'm not here, I'm not reading, but I urge you all to keep melting down over me. I know, I hurt alot of people, and they deserved it. epic win for me, epic fail for you.

Five of those years may have been spent coming up with the name Operation Kumbaya.
With the Drug War dragging on, it becomes more and more difficult to create operation names. The end of prohibition may come about when there are no more cool names left and law enforcement will just give up.
