Experience OM and learning about OM are 2 different things. To really understand/know OM you'd have to experience it.

Some random things I learned about AUM and my experiences with it in meditation:
AUM is the fundamental frequency of reality, all manifestations are harmonic frequencies.
AUM was chosen to represent this idea by the aryans due to the way the syllabary (alphabet of sorts) is arranged in sanskrit I think. It is arranged on where on the pallet of the mouth the sound originates. AUM, if spoken properly, vibrates the entire pallet and down the throat and on down into the feet.
I once had a very interesting meditation experience using AUM as a mantra. I began by actually vocalizing it. But I didn't like the fact that it had to stop when I needed to inhale, so I internalized it and began repeating it mentally, but without a break in it. It was one continuous vibration. Eventually, every noise I heard was AUM, and it all began stacking like notes in a chord. The hum of the air conditioner, the car noises arising and disappearing outside, my own breathing, etc. It was all notes of the AUM chord, in different octaves. Here is where it got really strange, because it left the realm of sounds and even sight and feeling became part of this vibration. I began perceiving everything as vibratory manifestations of AUM. My brain reinterpreted every sense as AUM. You can interpret the experience however you wish. Those are just the factual details of the experience.
AUM is pretty cool!

If you think "you" cannot discover om, you will not discover om. If you realize we can all discover om, you can wake up and see the reality of things.
You guys ever hear about logos?
Quote:
The sophists used the term to mean discourse, and Aristotle applied the term to rational discourse. The Stoic philosophers identified the term with the divine animating principle pervading the universe. After Judaism came under Hellenistic influence, Philo (ca. 20 BC–40 AD) adopted the term into Jewish philosophy.[3] The Gospel of John identifies the Logos, through which all things are made, as divine (theos),[4] and further identifies Jesus as the incarnation of the Logos.
In current use, Logos may refer to any of these senses. Outside academic discussions, the Christian sense, identifying Jesus with the Word of God, is perhaps the most common use.

IMHO om = logos. All religions talk about the same thing, its just you cant understand the meaning without the experience.
