'foundations of tibetan mysticism' has a whole section on it - really goes into the theory behind mantras
the entire book is a great read

yeah, the Upanishads are awesome. i read Paul Duessen's The Philosophy of the Upanishads which is an old but very detailed and comprehensive work.
i had something more contemporary in mind though... i suppose i should have been more specific. something sciencey like maybe something about brainwave frequencies or cosmic frequencies or i dono? i guess something that expands on the traditional spiritual literature on it. i dont want to be too specific though cuz i'm too high to do that very well, and i just want to know what others have found interesting
and -deff, i'll check out foundations of tibetan mysticism. i found it on googlebooks. thanks

Not something necessarily "sciencey" like brainwave frequencies(Look into the Schumann resonance perhaps?), but you might find interest in Crowley's expansion of aum into aumgn, as outlined here: http://sacred-texts.com/oto/aba/chap7.htm (scroll down to subchapter V).

very interesting. i like the part where it kinda described the biomechanics of forming and connecting sounds of each letter(i'd seen that idea mentioned in another thread on here) before it explained the symbolic meaning of the letters. the i wouldn't have know to ask about stuff connecting aum with crowly. precisely why i started with a broader request.
Quote:
JacquesCousteau said: The tone of 'om' or 'aum' is said to be the sound that is created when no resistance is offered to the voice. Instead of tensing the cheeks, jaw, tongue, and lips to make certain words out of the tone, one completely relaxes all of the above and makes a simple undefined sound.
This process of relaxation parallels in the mind, because it requires a focused intent on the concept of 'om' in the mind. This can help to relieve one of mind chatter and other verbal thought-forms.
the part about the sun and the 6x6 square... i didn't quite get that. do you have to re arrange the numbers like sudoku or something so that the rows and diagonals each add up to 111? because just numbering them sequentially from 1-36 would not work like that. 1+2+3+4+5+6...+36=111x6=666 all works out though.
if you dont feel like getting into numbers i'm totally cool with that..

If you want to learn something then books are good, for spirituality you dive into life Spirituality is not something you learn, its something you remember

By seeking knowledge as an effort to expand oneself and a point is reached where one-self must be sacraficed in order to attain that knowledge because the higher knowledge requires intellectual anylsis of the self

everywhere but the problem is when the self occurs it wants to perceive its own self so it creates an idea or perception of itself
