    #12014536 - 02/12/10 10:42 AM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Which would it be?

According to this site: http://www.biopark.org/ayahuasca.html

"The bark from the roots of M. hostilis contains the highest concentration of dimethyltryptamine known from any natural source."

Isn't that a tree? Well, I appreciate that tip immensely but I was thinking more along the lines of indoor cultivation and something I could start from seed...Sry for not being more specific.

Ahh right, sorry, my bad.

Well, not sure about the DMT content, but I know people have success growing Psychotria Viridis indoors.

Mimosa is technically a shrub, although a tree like one at that

They are easy to grow indoors and from seed.

yeah, but unless you have the climate to keep it outdoors(probably zone 9,or higher) it'll get too big so psychotria viridis(in container) and desmanthus leptolobus are good for people in average to cold climates. Acacia Obtusifolia is easy to grow and tolerates mild winters (-6C). Phalaris grows wild pretty much everywhere if you feel like experimenting with it. Phalaris does have gramine though which is toxic in sheep not sure how harmful small amounts are in humans.

Why the mythical DMT plant of course!

I've been looking into desmanthus illinoensis... I dunno about it's level of DMT, but i know it tolerates cold weather.

I'd get desmanthus leptobolus is supposedly more reliable(illinoensis being somewhat unreliable/unpredictable) trout says and is still fairly easy to obtain up to 0.14%.

Lespedeza bicolor is a cold hardy shrub. Little work has been done with it but two quantitative reports I saw quoted 0.16% and 0.25% as the achieved yields from fall-collected aerial portions on the dry weight basis.
As far as highest level of dmt per cubic foot of indoor grow space the answer may be a large 'bonsai' acacia since some species have usable quantities of DMT in foliage as well as high levels in their bark.
As far as fastest growth of usable plant matter in an indoor situation Phalaris brachystachys may fit the bill if it really has 0.25% in fresh material on the calculated dry-weight basis (they mythical number of 2.5% seems to have been a transcriptional error where 2.5 mg/g (0.25%) was transcribed as 2.5%.. I've since seen sloppy extraction reports in the neighborhood of 0.25%).
With Psychotria learn to identify species before buying. Most "P. viridis" are really P. alba (ca. half potency) or P. carthaginensis (ca. 1/4 potency). True P. viridis is the slowest and most difficult to grow, especially if you have low humidity.
Desmanthus illinoensis or D. leptolobus is a quite cold hardy outdoor possibility for people with land and for guerrilla gardeners but its far from a high yielder in terms of yield per square yard per year.

depends on what forum, but experiences are discussed occasionally. I think the reason for this is because it is extremely rare to get cuttings,or seeds from anywhere so you have to buy dried material. I don't know anybody on any forum that cultivates it,or has been able to get there hands on it. If seeds/cuttings were widely available they probably would become very popular possibly #1 because you don't have to harvest any bark.

I have known 2 people which have cultivated diplopterys cabrerana, and they say that it is SUPER hard to grow.
These are pretty well known "master" cultivators, too.
I guess that the hardest part is getting it to root, once you get a nice, established plant, it becomes much easier..
They're real fragile during shipping too I guess

oh really must be a picky plant that only likes it's native climate. I heard it rarely seeds too.

Diplopterys cabrerana seem to be closely guarded plants. For many years 100% of Diplopterys cabrerana seeds sold anywhere were fraudulent (despite being related they pretty much look nothing like Banisteriopsis seeds due to an anomylous development pattern). As was mentioned a few clones have escaped south america but they just arent spreading yet, probably due to difficulty in establishing optimal growth parameters.
They will spread eventually, just like Mimosa hostilis did back when most of them were fake, but for now view every alleged Diplopterys cabrerana as a probable fake.

Sounds like psychotria Viridis is a top candidate!
Yes, I'm a little impatient, I wouldn't want to wait years.

Psycotria virdis seed tends to have low viability and is more easily propagated through leaf and stem cuttings.
