Anyone know what's wrong with my lophs?
    #11992450 - 02/08/10 10:06 PM (2 years, 3 months ago)

2 of my lophs seem to be under the weather. Can anyone tell what might be wrong with them? They look healthy from the top but the sides don't look so good. I touched the areas and they feel normal and not soft or squishy.

Are they dormant?

How long have they been in that soil?

Do you have other lophs, in the same environment, that do not have this happening?

They are dormant but are in front of a south facing window getting light, just not water. They have been in that mix for about 3 weeks and it's granite, sand, cactus mix, and perlite. I only have one other loph and it's in the soil it came in and it does look better. Should I repot them or move them away from the window?

I'd unpot them for now and keep in a shaded dry area and keep watch for it spreading, and check the roots too.

I had a similar looking issue last summer with one loph, this is how it looked at it's worst :

And this is it today, fresh growth under the scabs :

It only happened to one, out of a group of 5 all under the same conditions, from the same nursery.

Give those Lophs some water man,and I promise you they will fatten up,and get back to normal.Dormant plants need water too:smirk:I've been watering mine at least once or twice a week all winter long.

what do you think the problem is?  willi are normally brown by the roots, nothing to worry about unless it spreads and is rot like mostly's pic.

like KBG said, winter plants can be watered...but every week can be dangerous in many places....not sure his/her area, but i knwo where i was in canada, once a month was ample.

i know what's wrong...too much water...they need very little water and here(in mexico) they get that way in the rainy season or in places where the water pools...let them dry out

IMO its just the scratching of the area that used to be below the soil line.
