They said the same about Timothy Leary. He was taking chances giving LSD to regular folk. LSD should be kept in the hands of researchers and doctors.
Good thing he didn't listen.

I for one don't see what tim did as a good thing. It gave the politicians ammunition, but thats just my opinion.

No LSD for you. Ever! That's what your opinion gets you.

For the moment, nothing...but be prepared to pony up a few bucks (at the very least) once the defense fund is set up, and be prepared to stand up and be counted. Some well-organized opposition to the tyrannical, over-zealous and premature persecution of Mr. Sloan MUST be mounted. Like it or not, our side / view cannot afford to be silent on this one, folks.
If the defense is well-funded, articulate, and well prepared, and the government starts to feel their case is threatened or weakened by either technical mistakes or evidentiary issues, then they will fold, settle, reduce and/or drop charges. They may have bitten off more than they can chew here, and this is a case they cannot afford to lose...especially if it becomes high profile! Based upon what I have read thus far, the FDA has made some early, monumental mistakes.
For the record...I do not know Mr. Sloan...nor am I familiar with all the issues and debates over his method(s) of doing business, HOWEVER, I DO recognize what is at risk here, FOR BOTH SIDES...and it is a dangerous game our government is playing. I feel they have COMPLETELY underestimated the organizational powers of this and other cyberspace communities, and the opposition is going to be FURIOUS once what is at risk is better understood by this and other similar communities. The backlash could be (and I hope it WILL be) massive, no matter what you think of Mr. Sloan personally.
Lastly, this is NOT a time to be wasting taxpayer dollars, nor is there EVER a good time a time to be waging war on US citizenry...who are already mad as hell over the economy (the Dow closed below 10,00 today, folks!) and a shit-ton of other political tomfoolery. Don't forget...Sloan was EMPLOYING PEOPLE, and no doubt paying payroll and income tax. Think what you want about what he was doing for a living, but at least he was employing people, and probably paying them better and treating them better than Walmart!

natureboy, can you respond to this:
"I dont know much about the issue, but if he fights it, and loses, will that set a legal precedent? Will that turn this grey market into something entirely illegal no matter what?
Alan said,
Quote:
2) I don't think we want him to fight this case. If he takes his case to trial and loses, the precedent will turn a large gray area into a solid black zone. If he was going to fight and win, he would have had his business in Arcata, California so half of the jury would be pot farmers. We don't want the case that sets the precedent with regards to the analogue act, MHRB and non-peyote mescaline cacti to be argued with a Kansas jury and a defendant that clearly knew he was selling tons of drugs.
If they pinch some old guy for growing san pedro, that would be the time to set a precedent. Not now.
If he doesn't take it to trial there will be no precedent set and the gray area will remain.
If this is true, do we really want them to fight it? "

I'm weary if this is a place to make our stand. I feel a charge against an individual for taking a psychedelic (entheogen) under a spiritual context would be more effective, no?
I'm open to hearing some proposals about how we could help this situation. There has to be something more than money? Perhaps thousands of letters about individual experiences with entheogens and how one incorporates them into a personal religious/spiritual/psychologically positive context - sent to the Kansas DA or whoever? Something like that has got to hit mainstream news (wishful thinking perhaps?). The Facebook group for "Support the Spiritual Use of Entheogens" has nearly 6000 thousand members who could be mobilized. Perhaps we could get MAPS involved too?
What do you all think?

Btw, does anyone have contact with Mr. Sloan and can get his input when everything cools down a bit?

It made me feel weird to get my package today and see his actual name on it. I don't know if his name has always been on the packages, or if I just now noticed because of this case and me seeing his name more often, but when it said John Sloan on it, I just said, "Damn..." and told my girl and my homegirl that that's the guy that got arrested.

At least he doesn't seem to be a chickenshit. But I really know nothing about his operation or him personally.
