I am a medical doctor in Thailand doing research on using mushroom for treating patients. I want to get Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris culture. Anyone want to donate or exchange those strains with medicinal mushroom strains in my collection please pm me.

Yes, It is me. The strain I use is Cordyceps militaris.
Some persons contacted me offering trading with the strain of Cordyceps militaris which is enough for my research. So, I wish to stop trading for Cordyceps militaris. Thank you all of you for that. The strain that I am still looking for is Cordyeps sinensis. If anyone want to trade with me please pm. Thank you again.

About a year ago the Ministry of the Health of Thailand ordered C.militaris (MushroomPeople strain) from FreeSporePrints (Fabio). By any change is that the very same culture?
What method you used to fruit it?

No, It is not the same culture. I tried many methods on the strain I got from Fabio but it did not work. I think it may be the problem of that strain itself that cannot fruit. So, I changed the strains. I just got it fruit a few weeks ago. I shared the method I used with wbastz. The method I used is not perfect. So, I am experimenting the new method to fruit it.
Are you Fabio?

No, I'm the one who sent that stubborn strain to Freesporeprints (= Fabio) to be spreaded around.

I was listening to this interview with Stamets yesterday and he talks about how it's easier to get at the medicines (polysacharides, beta-glucans, etc) in mycellium form because the the mycellium is only 1 cell wall thich, as opposed to fruiting mushrooms which are much harder to digest. Interesting food for thought.

Interesting. If you did an alcohol extraction, it wouldn't matter much either way, right?

This is the formula that I use in growing the mycelium at 12 c for about 2 months in dark and raise the temperature to 18-22 c and turn on the fluorescent light 24 hrs to stimulate fruiting body. I use LUX meter to measure the light intensity which is around 700 LUX.
cornmeal 10 gram glucose, 10 gram meat peptone 10 gram yeast extract 5 gram potassium dihydrogen phosphate 1 gram magnesium sulfate 0.5 gram vitamin B1 50 mg add all of them to 500 cc water solution
I put 30 gram of unpolished jasmine rice in bottle and 60 cc of solution then autoclave, then I put the mycelium to grow on it.
I use the temperature control which can adjust the range of temperature between 1-2 c around the set point.

I would do mycelium based meds here as the temperatures won't fruit cordyceps naturally for enough of a season as I understand it. It is the one mushroom we technically have to buy in and at this point that's what we do using whole fruit powder. There's a place called fungi health which sells a fruit&mycelium extract that I've been wanting to compare but cordyceps is definitely a choice medical mushroom. I use a combo of reishi & cordyceps (1:1) as a first try for erectile dysfunction and if that doesn't do it I get more severe but it does the trick for a lot of guys. But for all general purposes, cordyceps is a staple at our clinic with most people eating it.
As far as I know we have been using sinensis - how does one get a militaris culture to grow out? Would love to work with that...

Lol! If you translate that out it's all true and well known. Stamets pulled a lot of his references from Asian sources. Dr. Somis seems to be focusing on arresting/reversing necrosis of the kidney tissue and I can't say I've seen that detailed anywhere. The type and degree of benefit could change the donor waiting list radically to say the least.

THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT DEOZONE. so u basically cook up a special nutrient inriched liquid culture then grow it out on jasmine rice. have u tried other substrates (brown rice ,wheat , common spawn substrates)? Does this food (refering to substrate) still produce the same medical value that naturally occuring cordyceps produces? Have u identified any compounds in the fruits/myceluim.

Dr. Somis ~ I not sure about kidney failure, but I use cordyceps as part of treatment for kidney stones. We use reishi, cordyceps and turkey tail (1:1:1) and a 4 herb formula to soften and expel the stones. I believe you are on the right track with cordyceps and kidneys. The kidney stone tx we are using is the most effective and painless I have seen.

This method is just the one that I can make it fruit. I have not try other methods with the strain I have. Of course, I had tried different method with the strain I got it from Fabio but it failed. I have not sent it to analyze its medicinal components yet. My priority now is to standardize the growing condition and media for Cordyceps militaris culture and look for Cordyceps sinensis strain. Good to hear some results of treatment from curenado !!!

Have you thought about using other Cordyceps species, such as C. ophioglossoides?
Have you studied the anamorphs for possible medical properties?

Hi Dr.,
I was thinking about testing your methodology with the strain of Cordyceps militaris received from Roger Fudd and see what happens . I´ve started a new experiment this week and I could include this formula together the other tests.

It was a good Stamets interview, but I think it is a glittering generality to say that mycelium is always better than the fruitbody. Many plants and fungi have important chemicals ('secondary metabolites') that are normally only produced at certain stages of the life cycle. For example, reishi spores may have useful biochemicals that are not in the mycelium.
Industrial microbiologists will try to vary growing conditions to trick the mycelia to produce these secondary metabolites, or they will develop mutated strains that have those genes turned on all the time. If one is trying to make a million pounds of antibiotics or statins, that approach makes sense. But sometimes a whole mushroom or whole herb is best.
One of the arguments is that mycelium is finer and easier to extract - but we can mechanically grind most ingredients pretty easily. Experience shows that extracts with water, alcohol, and other simple solvents does a good job for most natural medicines.
And thanks for sharing, Deozone!!

<<They discuss in detail why mycellium is better for full spectrum medcinal production than fruits, or fruit extractions. >>
Actually, that's only true in mushrooms where the mycelial and fruit body properties you want are identical like Jonat said. In some the mycelial production by-products are beneficial as well in immune stimulation but not all or we could just grow mycelium for everything here.
Not to start a great big thing but - "Scientifically" speaking Stamets hasn't been reliable for "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" in some time - he will publish that you want the hot water extractbles but then sell alcohol extracts at a premium without mentioning the difference. Paul traded the science wagon for the profit/status whore cart a while ago and even people that were formerly devout groupies have become disillusioned. It's even gotten so blatant that you can say "Oh Bull" on shroomery and not immediately be attacked by mindless raving groupies - didn't used to be that way, but things change.

Hi,
Could someone explain what is an anamorph of Cordyceps sinensis and also tell me where I could find a good image of Cordyceps sinensis mycelium, with explanations of its physical characteristics ?
If I can isolate the mycelium from the caterpillar, which will be the name of the mycelium ? Cordyceps sinensis or Hirsutella sinensis mycelium ? How to differentiate them visually ?
Cheers,

Cordyceps sinensis is the sexual form of the organism, also known as a telemorph. It produces the Cordyceps fruiting bodies.
Hirsutella sinensis is the asexual form of the organism, also known as the anamorph. The anamorph is usually found living in soil, and is more mold like in appearance, as in it produces spores on stalks like bread mold.
If you isolated the fungus from an insect it would be the Cordyceps species, if it started to sporulate like mold does, then it has reverted to the anamorphic form. I'm not quite sure what conditions are necessary for it to change forms.
