I don't ever take wet weight, I always do dry.  I would say if I had to guess about 3oz dry, because my 4 tray dehydrator is completely filled which will range 2-4 oz, so I will go in the middle and say about 3 cracker dry, I will know in about a day or so.

Yep, that is why I posted the pics, just to prove that the tek works.

weight does not matter...
i would eye ball it at around 4 - 5 ounces!
what we do is pick the finest caps and blend them together and make capsules.
Then we explore/create

Interesting.  So 1 coir brick AND 2 qts dry verm with just 4 qts water?

My friend uses Eco Earth coir bricks.  The package directs to hydrate with 4 qts water.  This seems to work perfectly.

So adding another 2 qts dry material it seems he would need at least .5-1 qt additional water.

I suppose if 4.5-5 qts proved to be too wet, then he could always add some additional dry verm.

Yeah it could be done, but if the tek is followed to the T it will work perfectly as already stated a few times.  My coir brick says to hydrate it with 4 quarts of water as well, but if you do one brick and 4 quarts of water it is alittle to wet, because it is made for reptiles in most cases..  So adding the 2 quarts of verm helps take in the extra water..  But hey whatever floats your friends boat.

LoL had to add that

What kind of issues?  Like standing water, implying that the substrate was already fully saturated?

slow colonization times b/c it was not at a good field capacity.
Also had water on the bottom of the tub. Which leads to contam problems.

In my case, because I don't have bricks (I just flake coir of a huge block until I think I have the right amount) I normally hydrate with 4 qts or so, and then have oven-sterilized verm on hand, which I mix in by hand once the coir has cooled.

My only fear with this is that the verm will continue to absorb long after I have mixed in the spawn and left the tub to incubate, resulting in a too-dry substrate... I have 8 tubs going right now, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. Sometimes I take a peek and feel tempted to pull out the polyfill to give it a quick mist...

Other than that variation, I'm essentially following Damion's tech. I think its great because it's so straight-forward. Keep posting your results Damion5050!!!

Second flush is in.  The mushrooms were less in number but the stems were thicker.

I have noticed differences in the mushrooms when growing from different subs such as yours damion5050 and RR bulk sub tek.

Very nice!! It sure looks like the picking tore up a lot of sub. That's your BPK?  I hear Burma will do that.
