Rather than toss it you could let it fully colonize and birth the damn thing just to see what happens. Thats what I would do, but I'm into doing crazy stuff.

You already have it so you might as well make an experiment out of it...nothing to lose. Just put it in a separate FC.

No more pictures :-(  I threw them all away (6 of my 10 jars).
I'll let you know how the others end up.

And to explain my awesomely stupid idea to put wild caps in my jars...
It was my first time buying spores, and I didn't know whether the company was legit or not.  After about a week with no signs of white anywhere, I figured oh well maybe I just got a syringe full of water, no biggie.
Then I went hunting in a cow field and found some wild ones.  I knew that a good part of identifying a mushroom is to take a spore print on some paper and match it up to a field guide.  Then I figured "Hey, why not make a spore print directly on my BRC?"
This is where the mess started, because about 2 days later the white started spreading (from the original spore syringe)... and a few days after that I noticed the maggots.

If I had been a bit more patient I could have avoided all of this.

Oh well - lesson learned, and at least it was entertaining for everyone.

Thank you all for your replies and advice.  Wish me luck with my remaining jars!

:rofl2: Well at least you learned a lesson.

Good luck on your remaining jars.

Also, to avoid this "not sure if your syringe was from a legit place" problem, why don't you just order from one of the sponsors on here that's gotten good rep?

the jars of maggots i had never contaminated. It might colonized with the maggots. But try the dry ice trick. That'll suffocate them for sure..  But if that attempt to isolate the strain fails, try cloning to agar or cardboard.  its easy

i collected a cap from the wild and tried to go MS to jar and everytime i tried, there were maggots in the jar.  I had many jars with the same filter and the only thing iu could think of was that maggot eggs were in the spore print and got in the syringe..  But i have gone from wild MS straight to PF a few times with sucess

Damn, I think you shoulda saved 'em and kept them seperate just to see what happens! I mean, apparently the mushrooms and those worms seem to get along fine in the wild...

i think its how you prepared your brf is why you got maggots.....i bought a spore syinge and innoced 7 brf jars.  they were like 60% done and then one day i find some worms exact same ones as you....i think if you over cook your brf you will get worms...jus like how food gets spoiled it will harvest bugs...same shit..although, i thought it was only spoiled meat where maggots and shit came from so iuno.....how long did you sterilize the brf?
another reason could be that the larvae was in your brf and didnt get killed of when you sterilized it which means you may have not boiled it for long enough

either one could be a reason but im no expert. live and learn and sure in hell dont keep them man thats fucking nasty....would u wana buy some shrooms from someone that came from a maggot cake...think about it.
