if you plan to smoke/consume anything from the field, i advise caution as they could possibly be the thebaine strain.
i went out for a drive a couple of days ago to see if i could spot where they are growing the fields of poppies this year... unfortunately it seems that particular farm isn't growing any this year
then i got back home this morning and my mum told me where there are 2 huge fields of them, i'll go get some pics when it's dry
You can tell the pods they took in the picture were already cut.
Somebody obvious likes them.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing. They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end. They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection. These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

Can I do anything with poppy seeds? Like i bought a bag of the black ones 58 grams of them the ones that go on bagels I am not sure if they work. I didn't read the WHOLE paragraph but I didn't see anything about seeds so I am just wondering if they work and how to make a tea with them or how much to use.

Shit the majority of seeds I put out the last two batches keep dying.
I dont know what Im doing wrong.
I am atarting to think IM over watering them, I was watering them every two days. I noticed in the area that the sprinklers cant reach, the seedlings are more alive than in other places.

It sounds like they are succumbing to Damping off(Pythium). This is usually caused by too wet conditions once the seedlings have emerged, poppies don't like that. Try keeping the soil dryer or if that doesn't seem to work, use a fungicide while germinating.

I noticed the same thing OverDoseLiving. A couple months ago I went around and threw seeds all over my yard. The places I expected them to come up were where they got the most water, instead they took a liking for right underneath my hose spout. There were a ton of them that seemed to like the slow dripping that they got from a small leak in the spout, unfortunately they were all eaten by some caterpillars but I've taken care of that.

Can you over fertilize with [P] Phosphorous & [K] Potassium? [Re: Wiccan_Seeker]

My poppies are starting to show the 'swans head' which means they have started to flower. Is it possible to increase the size/yield with Phosphorous & Potassium?
Can you over fertilize with P & K? I read through the Overgrowers FAQ and it didn't seem to mention anything.
Thanks in advance!
Peace...

Very informative and fun thread guys!
One question though, will poppies grow in plant hardiness zone 11? Since those zones describe only minumun temp, i also live in the caribbean and althought in winter it dosent rain that much, summers are very wet.
Thanks in advance,
JC

considering the thebane-producing strains are jelously guarded.... I think it unlikely they would start putting the seeds into the marketplace as food.
