Ever since I installed this program, my laptop's fan has been going like crazy. I think it may be too much for my computer. Does anyone know how to uninstall it from a macbook?

1) stop folding 2) drag the following three items to trash: /Applications/Folding@home.app/ (the Folding@Home application in your Applications folder) /Library/LaunchDaemons/Folding@home.plist /Library/PreferencePanes/Folding@home.prefPane/
3) If you want to stop Folding forever drag this folder to Trash too: ~/Library/Folding@home/

I thought that I had already stopped folding, then I dragged everything to the trash. Now I can't empty the trash because of all these items are in use. Should I re-install everything just to stop folding and try to delete it again?

If M$ could charge for Folding@Home they would support it.

You can fold on a PS3 though. I have been meaning to update my folding hardware. Get a few CPUs that are not the one I am on mostly, so I can run it undisturbed.

Just thought I'd pop in and say that I've started folding for the shroomery. I've been folding for years, so it is an easy transition Keep up the good work.

I had stopped folding over the summer due to the heat driving me mad but i started again recently but stopped contributing as anonymous and set up a user name and I'm kind of curious what hardware other shroomerites are using.
I'm using the GPU client as i have an overclocked ATI 4870, I'm mainly curious if people are using the CPU or GPU client but any hardware info past that would be cool
I ask as in 1 week of folding i have apparently become the shroomery's 9th fastest contributor and i have not even been running the client 24/7.

For a while i was using 2x gpu client, but I had to ditch one of my video cards, so now i'm running one gpu client and one cpu client. I had 2x 9600gso, now just one. Unfortunately, the 4 series from ati doesn't put out as much folding power as it should, though mhouston and pandegroup are always working on making ati gear more efficient.
With the standardization of opencl, ati cards will really fly.

I have been kind of tempted to try out the CPU client but as I'm running an AMD 2.5ghz phenom quad core I'm not really sure i would like the time it would take per unit as it takes about 3 hours per unit on my GPU. I'm assuming even with the 1 9600 your gpu is really thrashing your CPU in points per day? (unless maybe your processor is a 4ghz+ oc'd i7 lol)
opencl is what I'm really wanting, I'm intending to replace my rig next year with all new hardware including a next gen card so likely the ati 5870 or the nvidia g380 or gf180 (whatever nvidia call it) so I'm hoping i wont have to wait too long to get folding with much much more power.

I'm folding on several rigs, my own being an older (about 3 years) AMD Athlon X2 overclocked from 2.2ghz to 2.8ghz stable. I've never used the GPU version, I dont even know if my card can do it. I've got an old ATI X800 Limited Edition (X850 core). I've got it overclocked to it's stable maximum also.
Other rigs included are Dell's HP's and Compaq base rigs, nothing special.

Yeah, the gpu client smashes pretty much every cpu client, unless you are using the SMP on a quad. Even still, it is close. I was getting around 8000+ PPD with the 2x 96GSO You can still run the CPU client along with the gpu client- just make sure you leave 1 core for the gpu client exclusively.
