Wow... it does appear to be mimicking a snail. Shrooms are such tricksters sometimes...  :mushroom2:

lol I was thinking the same thing... that is bad ass...  imagine growing that in captivity....  it would be crazy to throw like 6000 ants in a little farm and watching it all go down...  some of the other species have a much cooler look to them to.

I'm sure you can...I think the main trouble would be sourcing some tissue or spores to work with.

Have you maybe considered bioluminescent shrooms. there are several species out there that "glow" in the dark... I did pretty much the same thing you are doing, in college, and I always got a bunch of ohs and awws when the lights went out and you could see glowing buddies. If you have the lab equip, they are by far some of the best to grow/show...

Yeah I believe the folk term for glowing fungi is foxfire. So freakin' cool. I wonder if anyone's tried growing it?

Cordyceps are very interesting, though a bit creepy when you consider the parallels between the erratic behavior of the insects and myths/ideas like zombies.

A very cool, extra frosty member of the psilocybe genus   Very little info on these guys that I have found, mostly just a pic and a name.

Psilocybe Flocculosa

That was my first reaction on seeing them also!  Apparently they are extremely rare, known from only two localities, and that pic is the the first (and perhaps only) color photograph of them.

Tom Volk does a "Fungus of the Month".  You might check through those.  They're pretty interesting.

Psilocybe semiinconspicua is only known from one locality, thus rarer in a sense.

Lactarius Indigo.  Fairly common, but also pretty awesome looking!

It's bright blue, and oozes a blue latex, that turns green with oxidation.
