That's the only documented theory I've found. They began naturalising in the middle of the 20th Century.

ahh have they interesting, i wonder why they were brought over here, maybe for scientific reasons, but surely a few samples brought over then couldnt account for all the cyans in the uk today ?

and by naturalising do you mean inhabiting?

By naturalising I mean establishing themselves as a native species.

And yeah, I heard that some scientific samples were poorly disposed of.

Yeah these woodchips are laid on top of the soil in plant beds for landscaping and aesthetics. Secondary to the intended purpose, Psilocybe cyanescens likes to live there.

ive a cyan spore print but havent even bothered yet to find out exactly how to grow them.
im gonna have to read a bit more about it.
ive a few places in mind for the grows,i did intend to use it this season but was to late to start it all up by the time i got the print.

i to would love to see them growing all over the uk.

my spore print is quite old but im gonna set a date to make up a few syringes,when i do il come back on here and see if any of you fellow uk shroomers would like one.

il get a pack of the little 2ml syringes that the brass monkeys use and make up a few.

im no expert but im sure 2mls will be enough to make up a liquid culture or inoculate enough substrate to get ya started.
