Went to check on the patches today and picked some old specimens and found lots of pins and young ones that will be ready soon

Are the real old ones still ok? I found some with with blackish caps.

Any with black that is not from spores is probably old. Theyve gone bad when they get jet black and slick and nasty. You cna try surgery if you wish as long as the whole thing isnt black.

Here are some pics from my new favorite spot.
I visited it on three different days, and each time there were more and more patches flushing.
Day one:

Day two:

Day three (today):

Habitat:

For some reason, the cyans here have pretty thin stems but are still massively potent! Today a lot of the mushies were looking pretty black/blue. Must be getting too cold for 'em out there.
I left a ton more out there to grow and drop some spores, so hopefully this spot keeps producing in the future!
Cheers!

Man I totally eat the black slimy ones. I just throw em in with somethin yummy that masks them, or I dry em out in my desicant chamber and eat em later. They seem to work great for me.....might not be as potent....but whatevs....I dont like to waste and Ive never had any adverse effects from em

so i go to this shiitake log inoculation demonstration yesterday put on by this older very experienced local mycologist. it was an awesome experience . but i notice his yard is full of alder chips having cut up so many alder logs . so i walk away from the group to have a smoke, and low and behold i found this nice patch of cyans. so i go back to the group and one guys asks if you can grow the other funny kind of mushrooms this way. i kinda giggle and the mycologists states that no its not the way to grow cubensis. then he says" well about 10 years ago when the hydro guys put in the poles on my road they gave me a bunch of wood chips and they ended up fruiting a huge patch of stuntzii." then i speak up,"did you know theres a big patch of cyanescens over there"? he looks up with a surprised expression and he says" no,but when everyone else is busy bring me to them.":)
so i do,there was a big mycena patch around them, and i pointed down,he says no those arent.i pick one and say "ya its a mycena but look closer." and i pick a cyan. he says" son of a bitch, that is so cool. good eye man." so i ask if i can have them and he winks at me and smiles and says" go ahead." hes obviouly doesnt do them,he must have been around 70.but he still though it was cool.and he was very impressed i knew a thing or 2. so these are the bigger ones, i left all the beauty pins still coming up for him to enjoy. finally found one with a very thick stem .most i find have thin stems like ive stated before.
