yeah i dont think i amworried about going to a mycology group and being sad cuz a bunch of nerds luaghed at my pronounciation. though im a nerd myself.. but i will always keep saying it like sill-oh-cibe

You can see mycologists like Paul Stamets pronouncing them on youtube at seminars, a worthwhile watch if you are not interested in pronunciation too!

It's funny... I have never heard anybody else say these words as anyone I would talk to about this is here on the Shroomery. I do sometimes call them to me by name as I walk through the forest or pasture... It worked with Gymnopilus!

Those seem to be the "englishified" version of latin pronunciation.

i pronounce them in the enlishified version of Latin.

This thread is indeed very interesting.
One weird thing about me is, that when I'm alone, hunting for mushrooms, I kind of narrate myself through the species I find. So, when I find Psilocybe cyanescens, I pronounce the name in my head. Well, the strange thing about it is, that I do it in English, although I'm German Probably has to do something with these forums
My whole mycological vocabulary is English. I have pretty hard times not to use English words, when I talk about mushrooms in German
Panaeolus = pan-eeh-oh-luss
Lepiota = leh-pee-oh-tuh
Psilocybe = sill-uh-sigh-b (though I don't pronounce the "b", like "bee", but like in the word "hype"... only with a "b", instead of a "p".
Gymnopilus = jim-nah-pee-luss
Hygrocybe = hygh-grow-sigh-b (same as with "Psilocybe")
What would be interesting I think is to find out how the species names are pronounced, so P. semilanceata, azurescens, cyanescens etc.
