5.hygrocybe
spell it out like u pronounce it. i think it will be interesting to see hw ppl pronounce theyre mushrooms. ex:sil-o-cibe(psilocybe)

Latin:
Pah-nah-ay-oh-loos
Lay-pee-oh-tah
Psee-loh-tsueue-bay (for the "tsueue" think "queue" with the q replaced by ts)
Geem-noh-pee-loos
Hee-grow-tsueue-bay

it's confusing because queue is not a native english word, the sound is actually closely related to the german Ü (u with umlaut [ue]) but I could also see french associations particularly with the spelling. GK would you agree?

I know mine are all wrong, but to play along, this is how I pronounce them in my head:
1.Panaeolus: Pan-aye-lee-us
2.lepiota: le-pee-oh-tuh
3.psilocybe: sigh-loh-sibe
4.gymnopilus: jim-nah-pih-lus
5.hygrocybe - high-grow-sibe
There was a link posted a while back with a wav file for each pronunciation. But I've since lost it.

i have been pronouncing psilocybe wrong for years now
good thing i am usually talking mushrooms with people who dont know much....haha

The word Psilocybe isn't Latin anyway...it's based on Greek, FYI, although the prefix "psi" does exist in Latin. Also, we have no freaking idea how Latin was actually pronounced, so what the heck.
