Guilty Plea Entered in Shroom Case
WAYNESBORO — A man snared last summer in Waynesboro’s largest drug bust ever for psychedelic mushrooms pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession with intent to distribute.

Waynesboro police launched an investigation of 31-year-old Felix Gutierrez after neighbors in the 1700 block of New Hope Road complained of possible drug activity at his apartment. He was arrested July 1.
Police carted away 107 mason jars of the drug, its effects similar to LSD, along with two large plastic tubs used for growing. Thermostats, vents, scales, pots and soil also were taken from Gutierrez’s apartment.
Waynesboro prosecutor David Ledbetter said Gutierrez initially claimed the drugs were for his own personal use. Asked for the street value of the confiscated mushrooms, which can sell for up to $150 an ounce, Ledbetter said it was never determined because only a few grams of the drug were submitted for forensics testing because of fears the mushroom spores could become airborne during testing if too much was submitted.
The entire stash of mushrooms was eventually destroyed, according to Ledbetter.

No I believe they base the price on a lack of a normal intelligence and the fact they get more money from the government for more enforcement. Morons. It saddens me at the lack of the truly enlighten amongst those who have been given authority. I might add, discretion is the rule, respect thine enemy.

They sound like they collected a bunch of stuff that isn't even from the mushroom grow. They probably weighed it all and counted it as mushrooms, glass, dirt pots, and all. These people are so ignorant, And,, Dont Let The Evil Spores On The Loose, people will be breathing the evil spores and overdosing on the LSD like effects. God getting busted by these schmucks sure would be a nightmare. I feel for bro.

Well, you are talking from the perspective of people who have shrooms available for free at all times. It's not like that for everyone. Admitted, it is a bit expensive, but it's not like the totally ridiculous estimates you normally see from the cops (a la "they seized 100 marijuana plants with a street value of [insert random double digit million figure here]").
150=1oz
80-90=1/2oz
45-50=1/4oz
25-30=1/8oz
Expensive, but not absurd. I paid $20 for an 1/8 of cubes back in the late 80s and that was considered a decent price even in hippie central Eugene, OR.

Ah, good eye. Of course if he was busy storing dried mushies in 100 jars and using 2 tubs for growing, he's clearly failing basic economics.

I've actually seen $250 an oz, and people paying $40-$50 for an eighth. Depends on where you are I guess.

According to another article on the same incident, Gutierrez faces a maximum of one year and four months in prison for the bust. It's good to hear that they can't put him away for any longer. In another recent incident, a couple was facing sentences of up to 10 years for a growing operation.
Does anyone know of a resource that states the sentencing laws for different states? I would like to know how it applies in places like California.
