(Granted, I am not sensitive to urushiol (toxin in poison oak)... not yet anyway.)
... you have a mycology themed birthday party, and only invite other mushroom hunters.
... the police tell you not to go "over there", and as soon as they leave, you rush over and duck in the bushes, picking mushrooms for hours.
... people ask you why you have mud on your face and are covered in leaves and pieces of wood.

Yes. It is usually some random species that I can't even really remember ever finding or seeing in real life. I do not let it bother me though, instead I often spend mushroom hunts alone working on fluent pronunciation of certain genera or species, and wonder if I am applying the correct rules of pronunciation.

yes i often wonder if i pronounce mushrooms names correct to, sometimes i just say the name i think it is and then on further inspection i read the nameand relize it sounds nothing like wat i was calling it. for example coprinus i originally called it cupernicus becuase i only saw the name a few times. OH and curecat i know pronounce pluteus like u pronounced it in your youtube vd hahah

Hmm.. I forget how I pronounce it in that video. I usually say "Ploo-tay-us", though I regularly hear it referred to as "Ploo-tee-us", and I can't really argue one way or the other.
My friend who recently moved to France was telling me how they pronounce things totally different, and the examples cracked me up. I think for Clitocybe it was "Clee-toe-seeb", rather than "Cleye-toss-uh-bee", hahaha.
I don't usually add syllables or letters to names when I pronounce them, I have a pretty good memory for how the names are spelled, I just fuck up on pronouncing them some times. Luckily, it doesn't matter.

"Ploo-tay-us" is the correct way to pronounce it. Actually, it's even more like "Ploo-tay-oos".
