I'm passing on this message about what sounds like an interesting guide:

On November 3, National Geographic aired the first of several broadcasts of EXPLORER: Inside LSD. The producers did a good job of showing scientific research being done with LSD in different settings (past and current). The show included several segments about personal use. These ranged from warnings about the danger of "bad trips" to the possibility of a spiritual experience. While the use of LSD for enthogenic expansion of consciousness was touched on, that possibility was not developed. There were several scenes showing the positive role a psychotherapist could play, but no discussion on the value of having a guide. If you are interested in learning more about the role of a guide and the set and setting which makes personal spiritual experiences more possible, there is a manual being written for people to use psychedelics in ways that are sacred and safe. This manual provides support and information for people acting as guides.
The manual will be released soon. If you would like a copy, send a request to entrancepress@aol.com. You will be sent a downloadable version of the manual as an attachment as soon as it is complete.

Investigating the possibilities of LSD and other hallucinogens is way past due. Observations in the past by old school scientists, didn't ask the right questions. You can not investigate LSD using the standard scientific formulas. It's time for LSD to get a proper study, one not mired in scientific prejudice. My experience with LSD has shown me that there is much more to discover about our minds! Either we already know our limitations, or there is a vast amount of knowledge that is still unknown! I know that LSD has more answers! It's time some of us scientists 2.0 that are experienced explorers, get together and ask the right questions.

I watched that, and I thought it was the most in depth and non biased documentary I've seen on a psychedelic in a while. I agree about it's limitations though, so I can't wait to read this guide. Thanks for writing it when you do!
One question, could someone just post it as an attachment to this thread, or start a new thread and post it there when they get it? It would seem to make more sense that it be available for public viewing, rather than available to those who specifically seek it out. Plus I don't feel like giving out my e-mail, not that I don't trust who ever's e-mail that is.
Thinking about it more, I'm pretty excited about this, treating psychedelics in a sacred and therapeutic fashion is something I think people completely over look, yet it's so obvious that they deserve that sort of treatment. I hope this catches on.

My thoughts exactly. Not once did they demonize the substance. Alot of eyes have been opened after watching this.
My only issue was that they only seemed to touch the tip of the iceburg in terms of information.
Each segment of the show, whether they were talking to the chemist at Stanford that is allowed to make it, or the scientists overseas that are mapping the hallucinating mind, was brief. I would like to eventually see a followup to this show.

great Idea! I watched this show with my mom it was really good for people who know nothing about the substance. I wouldn't put it past the dea to monitor this site as well.

I don't think so, although ever since I e-mailed them I have been receiving hundreds of messages like this:

Anyway give me a little credit. I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't know the source, someone who has been involved with the community in the past and is one of the speakers featured in the program. He or she just doesn't want to be seen as promoting recreational drugs use, for professional reasons. I haven't asked if we can re-post the document, but I will.

I had the DEA report for growing and creating opium/heroin, etc.. it is still out there.. so no big secret, but they attempted to retract the report as it contained "dangerous information" .. lol. It was a good read

I definitely endorse the manual and its ideas but..
Theres this tripping manual from 1959 that contains basically all the information outlined in the new manual, but sandwiched in between lots more of brilliant information.
The match between the 1959 manual and this manual is so close that I wonder if it was used as one of the sources.
Surely we now, fifty years later, know lots of worthwhile stuff we didnt know back then?

We know more since 59', but we stalled out in the 70's! There is an emerging underground movement exploring hallucinogens, and science can no longer ignore these mind expanding drugs. It's time hallucinogens and marijuana are legalized, it's ridiculous putting someone in jail for using these substances. And congratulations to Oregon with the first Marijuana Cafe' in the Country!

Wow I didnt know James Fadiman did all those LSD studies..
He wrote probably the most influential book on my life that Ive ever read.
It had a bunch of studies about LSD and schizophrenia and case studies including altered state induced art.. It left a big romanticized impact on my 11 year old mind..
Heres the crazy part.. A couple weeks ago, for my 20th birthday I decided t get another copy of that book for myself because I lost my original copy a while ago.. I found and bought an autographed copy and it arrived on my birthday!
my gf actually pointed out that it was the same guy. I would have never noticed!
Its now one of my prized possesions. Just as if it where the original copy of the book!

To be with Hoffman on his bike ride-
This is now the one point in history I wish I could return to. The excitement, wonder, and awe he must have felt on the worlds first LSD trip. Truly to go were no man has gone before.
Ythan thank you for linking this documentary, it really made me take a deeper look at what I have been doing.
Like the study with psy. given to terminally ill patients to calm them and bring peace to their world.

Thanks for the Video link YTHAN you fuckin rock... i cant believe i didnt catch that on tv. Also thanks for the guide documents WorldSpirit. I hope to use these soon on my friends mom who had a bad experience about 30 years ago and has been afraid of mushrooms since then.

Hell no. Leary's "Psychedelic Experience" was way poorer to prepare you for a trip than the Handbook I posted. It even suggested taking amphetamines with your trip to make it more

I agree that Leary's manual largely did nothing to help, nor did the CD that was released several years ago.

Let me rephrase. I didn't mean it directed to anyone in particular, and my approval of someone is irrelevant. I just mean that if you're not willing to research a topic in depth, regardless of what it is, but especially a topic as complex as this, you are obviously going to have a very weak understanding of it, and as such, should not be putting what little information you have of it into practice. If you're not going to read the whole thing, you shouldn't read it at all. I didn't mean that I don't think that you personally don't deserve this information. Also, I do agree to an extent, a more concise version of this document would certainly reach a broader crowd, but it's the best that we have thus far, at least to my knowledge.
I apologize for making assumptions and for coming off as a dick, I can understand how it would seem that I was just trying to be inflammatory.

I think there's useful and interesting information in Leary's work, but I also find a lot of drama and impracticality in it. There are only so many alternative things we can do with our trips. Nearly every person in this world avoids taking too many things seriously. The same approach has to be included in psychedelic experiences - the simple and the profound.

I look at Leary and Alpert as early explorers. Columbus was wrong about reaching reaching the Far East by sailing West, but he ended up finding something totally unexpected and lead the way for others to follow.
