I've seen that pic before, someone else on this forum uses it as their sig. Perhaps he or she would know, if you can find em.

yep, i asked the bloke but he doesnt remember. i have to find out though.... if i had gotten that damn mushroom identification book at borders when it was on sale i wouldnt have to ask!!

i dunno, they are a hard species to distinguish. id like to find a lil outcropping of them myself someday! id like to find Mycena cyanorrhiza someday if for no other reason but to have a print and see it for myself.

there is a species that may be related to it that actually stains blue! named Mycena cyanorrhiza... probably weak, but pretty!

Ah yes, you probably won't find that mushroom in that book as I think it must be quite a rare species and your right, that book wouldn't be very helpful here in beautiful/awesome NZ!
It would be helpful to be able to see the gill attachment, it could be a Mycena species but I've never seen any with a veil that is so well formed like these specimens, I'm sure if the image was posted at mushroomobserver someone could id it! inski..

it sort of looks like Galerina marginata, if they had caps made of plain gelatin.

I've seen the pic elsewhere in my foraging, but I can't place my finer on it. The annulus almost looks like something off a Galerina sp. to me.
